check comments for all the viral shit going on.
jeez, valve is blowing their wad on this one; setting up a BBS which you can only find by calling a number seen in an encrypted image hidden in one of the sound files?

they better not release yet another "all halflife" box.
then again, if ep3 is going to be the same length as ep2 it would also be foolish to release it as a standalone game.

				Slightly more detailed info here:
here
"Smart people yank .wav files out of game content folders and run them through steganography programs. Produces 26 weird cryptic image files in a numbered sequence.
"Some dude runs the number string through an md5 hash translator and gets a landline number. Internet traces it to Kirkland, WA (near Valve HQ).
"People find out it's not a phone/fax line but a data line hosting a BBS and telnet it. Use a clue from one of the files to figure out the BBS user/password login info. End up with a bunch of weird ASCII artwork.
"We're trying to figure out WTF it means."
I love wasps? Flies? Mosquito's?

You may have heard about the new Portal update. Adds a few new sound files, and a new achievment... But how deep does the rabbit hole go? Well, far, far, far deeper than you could even imagine.
The shear fact these guys have the brains and balls to do this stuff is just awesome. If only they would apply them to Episode 3 already

Take a look at this and prepare to be mind blown. It just gets better as it goes down:

				I fucking loved Portal.
So much so that I'd even prefer to play a bunch of new levels for it over playing HL2ep3.

Oh hellll no. A bunch fo new levels really can't take that long for Portal, but they are coming up the 3 year mark by now for Episode 3 arn't they...? Episode 3 is totally different in look and feel to the other three HL2 titles if you know the back story and where its heading, so I'm very much looking forward to seeing how they handle that kind of location.

Don't get me wrong, Hl2 and the eps were great.
It's just that Portal is unique, and I just crave some more of that, whereas HL, just...isn't, really.
But looking forward to both, of course.

You know I should play Portal on PC, I bought Orange Box when it was on sale and haven't played it... Yet I beat the full thing on 360, heh... I'll likely walk to the PC version with mouse/keyboard.

That's really cool, the image of the two robots kinda look like the image of the two humans sent on Voyager1.

Same here. In fact when I first played Portal I hated it.
I downloaded Still Alive for the XBox to give it another chance and the wondrous thing is that while I enjoyed playing it, I still didn't understand the hype around the game right up until I beat GLaDOS. For some reason something then clicked in my head and I thought wow, this game has really been thought through very well and suddenly some sort of fondness for this game started to grow.
Right now I must say that yes, I would love a new Portal game.

				Well,
Prey was released in 2006 (Portal in 2007) and it featured similar Portals as well, although the player could not create and destroy them.

im sure we're talking about gametype, genre and setting here, not individual elements.
thats like saying Wolf3d didnt do anything new; Rick Dangerous also had guns.

				You
have played
Spelunky, haven't you Memph?
It's reminiscent of Rick Dangerous, but mixed with a rogue-like, and ridiculously addictive.
Edit: oh yeah, it's free too.
