Hi everyone!

I just started mapping so I decided to make this journal of my map making process and instead of clogging
the forum with alot of new topics/questions I'll just state a question here and hopefully someone will answer.
I'll also post screenshots and other stuff that make up the design process of my map. :)

Someone asked for the plastic shader I'm using. It was created by Pat Howard in this forum post:
[http://www.quake3world.com/forum/viewto ... 10&t=42496]

Code: Select all

//Plastic shader by Pat Howard.
//Best used on curved surfaces.
textures/flow/plastic_smooth
{
 	qer_editorimage textures/flow/plastic_01.tga
	{
	map textures/flow/plastic_01.tga
	rgbGen const ( 0.675 0.675 0.675 )
	}
	{
	map textures/flow/env_plastic_01.tga
	blendfunc add
	tcGen environment
	}
	{
	map $lightmap
	blendFunc filter
	tcGen lightmap

}

Dropbox is a really cool program that lets you store files for free online.

I like the color schemes... though I am not quite sure how you are planning to implement them, unless you plan to use flat color textures? The sketch is nifty too...

Good idea to start a thread and ask about things pertaining to your map - I do that as well. In some cases a new thread may be better though, when a more *general* question comes up.

@AEon: I'm not sure yet. I think gameplay is more important than visuals and alot of players tweak the graphics to show flat textures anyway. :/

I have two questions, and would be glad if someone would answer:

1) I have read that people let brushes share the same space. Example: a water brush in a room that goes through the walls.
Would this be okay with spiral stairs too? It's hard to fit walls to spiral traps (and the other way around).

2) How do you make textures/shaders that are transparent on only a part of the texture? Like jail bars for example.

I will avoid the joke of the chick being able to inspire anything.

Oh, wait. I didn't. :)

If you want you can take that as a start for your bridge. Also built it from a photo I took in Niagara Falls, I guess.

bridge.zip

And yes. You all need to know that I was in Niagara Falls...

Bliccer, that's awesome!
That gave me an idea: I'll post every part that I finish (the map file) so people may suggest improvements. :)

New screenshots

Base and a plastic astronaut jump pad (not quite finished).

If anyone is interested in a collaboration, send me a message. I need someone who makes textures/shaders/models/whatever to speed up the process.

You wouldn't actually need a whole bot clip bridge, just enough clip brush to encourage then to use that route.

ooo, just noticed, big glass tube...I did just that in 'Pink and Curly'. Great to see another one :)

New screenshots in the original post. I'll bump less in the future though; only when I have major updates to present. Hiho.

No worries man. If you have added screenies you would like to share with us as you are working on it, by all means share.

I had a map where bots were jumping along platforms. Granted, the platforms were each lower than the next, but they still jumped gaps of death fog.

I love the movie Akira and so I decided to create a hologram from a gif. It's not finished.
Original shader by Hipshot. I changed it a bit (animated + more light).

Code: Select all

textures/flow/gym1
{
   qer_editorimage textures/flow/gym1.tga
   qer_trans .5
   surfaceparm trans
   surfaceparm nolightmap
   surfaceparm nomarks
   surfaceparm nonsolid
   nopicmip
   noMipMaps
   q3map_surfacelight 1000
   cull none
   {
      animMap 3 textures/flow/gym1.tga textures/flow/gym2.tga textures/flow/gym3.tga
      blendFunc add
      rgbGen identity
   }
}
