The action shots and the videos do have them in basic padding. As far as rugby goes, I've seen some big hits for sure but in general the game doesn't seem to lend itself to the same level of hits that are part of most plays in football. The main difference being that after every play in football you get time to regain energy and then line back up leaving you in situations where the players are sprinting full speed directly into each other; whereas in rugby the plays last much longer and are more free flowing across the field at a slower pace set by the offense while the defense does a sort of zone coverage. There also seems to be a major difference in the style of tackles between the two games. Rugby has more of a wrestling style takedown and almost seems more cautious (for good reason, you dive at a guy and he can just toss the ball to the guy beside him). In football, you're throwing your entire body through the other player while wrapping them up to be sure that if the inertia doesn't take him down the next player will. Rugby players are certainly fucking badasses. But I wouldn't call a football player a pussy either.
