Best country to live in?

With all the pointless debate over evolution and health-care, and the constant lobbyist control of politics, the terrible media, the ignorance, the educational system, and all the other lovely things the rest of the world likes to make fun of America for, I've been wondering what countries are better overall to live in. Is the grass really greener across the pond?

I'm more curious than anything else but if moving became an option I might seriously consider it.

Anywhere but the USA. Also Columbus is a particularly vile shit hole, I suggest anywhere other than there.

I love England to fucking bits and have turned down jobs in Paris and Dubai. However you might find the British are becoming more and more unfriendly towards Americans.

You should try Ireland.

:toothy:

I read Canada is as religious as the least religious US state, Vermont (42% feel religion is important part of life). Still seems a bit high for my liking.

Why do you think this is? Ignorance?

I'm right there with you man, but you need to consider the rest of the world suffers the same condition as America. Ignorance is everywhere.

Huh? Religion is mostly something for the Elderly and Immigrants here. I don't know anyone other than my mother who would say that religion is an important part of their life.

I think it's a back lash from Bush still in effect, there's a feeling a little distance politically from the US would be a good thing.
The war's taking it's toll right now over here and there's a lot of news slots showing the tea party over there and not in a good light.

I've even seen peoples look of disdain when a loud obnoxious American is heard.

well, unless you speak another language you're pretty much restricted to the UK and former british colonies. i'll assume you know which ones they are (including the one you live in, obviously :p )

ireland - yeah, great craic, but full of catholic conservatives and a bit smug
canada - dunno. loads of space and too few people to fill it. might be your best bet
NZ - ok if you can stand the whining maori victim culture
australia - got a criminal record?
south africa - run by niggers who think the AIDS vaccine is a CIA plot. probably avoid. same goes for every other english-speaking african country
UK - crowded, shit weather, CCTV coming out the arse - however the stereotypes about shitty dental work and lousy food are literally decades out of date
brussels - yes, brussels. it may be the capital of belgium but everyone speaks english and it's pretty laid back in a shabby genteel kind of way
netherlands - ditto with the english-speaking, plus legal weed and hoes

In that case, skip the Netherlands. That idiot Wilders is riding high in the polls for the next election :disgust:

Turks and Caicos Islands have been asking to join Canada for decades. So has Jamaica and Vermont! The Manifest Destiny might happen after all, just not exactly as intended.

that's interesting because occasionally i wonder if a union between britain and canada wouldn't be a good idea. we've got a huge economy but 61m people crammed on to an island, canada has 30m people and a fuckton of empty space. same language (apart from the quebecois), same head of state, same political traditions, plus canada's one of the few countries we don't actually hate

It's like that in Australia as well.

My accent is a mishmash of like 5 different languages/accents, but the predominant influence is American as I learned the bulk of my English language from American teachers in Madrid. When I meet people for the first time here, there's always a semi-awkward "So .. are you .. from .... Canada or something?" as though they're trying hard not to be rude by asking if I'm from America.

Pretty sure other countries won't take kindly to your WoW account selling scams. You better stick to Columbus.

A quick hop over to the website of the Happy Planet Index would have learned you that the index does not measure absolute hapiness but the efficiency with which countries convert natural resources into hapiness.
so now i learned me that costa rica is #1 for convert natural resources into hapiness

is nice
