2 Questions (hardware and software related)

And here are some more questions:
1) What CPU is better suited for running and working with GTKRadiant 1.5.0 (and 1.2.1): A Pentium 4 2.8 Ghz (2 CPUs) with Hyperthreading enabled or a Pentium 4 3.4 Ghz (single core) also with Hyperthreading enabled? Since I can choose between both of these and my maps are usually challenging my hardware I wanna use the fastest solution.

2) Are there any changes from Q3's point release 1.32 compared to 1.30 regarding a greater acceptance of huge brushes or patches and the like? What I'm trying to say: Is is for example possible that Q3 1.32 is able to start and play a map that gave Q3 1.30 a max_patch_plane error and therefore canceled the loading process? I get that error quite often durinng the last weeks and was wondering if id made any changes to certain limits

Thanks for any help!

Well, I don't think GtkRadiant is specifically multi-thread optimized nor is it particularly CPU taxing. Regardless, I don't think it really matters one way or another. Other things like video card and memory might help in other aspects.

Q3Map2 is a different story, it does make use of multiple threads so compile times might be faster on one or the other. To see which is faster, just make Q3Map2 spit out a log file from each computer and compare compile times.

I doubt if any of the overhead values for Q3 has changed between point releases, but they do fix a number of bugs and security vulnerabilities. I don't see any reason why you wouldn't want to run the latest PR or even ioquake3.

Thanks for answering my questions, obsidian!
Q3Map2 does indeed consider a multi-threaded system, 2.5.16 even recognizes them without any need for an own compile key. If I find time I gonna replace the current CPU (that takes some time especially with my system), I'll follow your advise and post the results. Might take a while though...

Just realised why I didn't apply 1.32 PR: Q3A won't start any more after doing that! The current installment runs completely stable in every other respect but upgrading it somehow crashes everything. I hope that I find my CD to do a proper re-install one day and until then I have to stick with 1.30. :tear:

Oooh, it'd be so easy now to make a joke like 'Your mum is something I can dream of but not pay for'.

But I won't. I just won't.

yea the thing about buying that processor is that ur gonna need a mobo that can support it and ddr3 ram, which isnt cheap.
