screen resolution revert

G5/dual/2.0ghz/OSX57/Q3Arena
What causes Q3 to lose the full screen (1024x768) setting as I play certain Maps? Q3 seems to revert to 800x600 pixels across. I have to get out of the game and reset the game settings, then back into Q3Arena.
