Myth? Does anyone know?

When I was growing up I was always told that going outside with wet hair in the winter will result in getting a cold, recently I found out that this is actually not true.
So now I’m questioning a few other things my parents told me. One common thing they always yelled at me for is having a car window or window in the house blowing at you while you’re hot and that this will also get you a cold. Or even if you’re sitting in a draft for a long time and also drinking very cold water while you’re hot.
Can you really get sick like this?
Can you get sick by walking around in light clothes during the winter? If you can get sick by any of these means how exactly do you get sick?

Did they ever tell you that they were your parents, then?

i don't think it makes you sick per se, just more susceptable for germs.

I'm not a docter, but getting a "cold' has to do with bacteries and virussen and has nothing to do with weather.
You can get a cold in the summer you know.

well wet hair does mean you lose body heat at an enormously increased rate.
Not sure if this amounts to being rendered more vulnerable to a cold - wouldn't be surprised tho.

No seriously I grew up always being yelled at and warned about shit like this and I still don't know if it's true or false.
The wet hair and winter fact I found on mythbusters site so it should be a fact then.
But I think you can get suck from drinking very cold drinks while being very hot? Does anyone know?...

i think it just makes you more prone to shit... after ive had a heavy drink, lack of sleep or even the place i work at (cold cold cold) i am getting them more than i used to
doesnt mean you are gunna catch one, just that your more likely to if you do do it maybe ?

hm the mythbusters aren't really scientific...
you can definitely not get directly sick from such a thing, only bacteries or virii can cause sickness.

That’s what I realized that only bacteria and viruses can make you sick, unless this some how make you susceptible.

If you work yourself to a sweating state, then walk outside into a -10-15 or so environment, it is very bad for you

The efficiency of your immune system decreases as your body temperature drops. That's why you get a fever when ill: it's your body dealing with those nasty germs.

yes. thats a part of the importance of fever, the immune system works most efficient at a temperature just above bodytemp

Its all lies.
Mythbusters would do well here.
These are the Facts
Sitting in a drafty room will not make you ill. Possibly chilly but not ill.
Walking outside with wet hair will not make you ill, mayby som frozen hair but that is all.
The cold does not lower ones imune system to suseptibility of illness.
The cold does however force people to congigate to places. Mostly warm spots. If one is ill and sneezes or choughs you might contract what thay have.
Also just touching sufaces like door handels or counters and then rubbing ones eyes may result in contracting an illness.
Dont belive Old Wives Tales.

You can get pneumonia though, I think. At least in a few cases like that. Like if you go outside in the winter while wearing wet clothes, stuff like that.

yeah, its really bad for the vessels in your brain to expand from the heat and then contract violently from sudden cold. some gyms I've been to even have had warnings about not getting out of the sauna and jumping directly into the cold swimming pool.
hm ive checked google to be sure, and everywhere it says thats its good to take a cold shower after a hot sauna. its good for your bloodvessels because you train them to expand and contract that way. i dont see any reason why the brain couldn't handle the bloodvessels contracting.
maybe you mean that you might lose too much heat too fast? .. dont think that'd be an issue tho...
