That's neat and always what I've suspected. Some people place more importance on Humans because of our intelligence but we're really no different than any other animal except we have bigger brains but hey, that was our lucky lot in life to be intelligent instead of fast, or strong etc...

It'll be neat to see what animals think though to know how they view us and how they think of us. What I'd like to see though is a group of these animals become extremely intelligent almost as smart as a human so they could go back to the wild and try to either communicate or better interpret the behaviour of wild animals of their same species.

Bonobo monkeys are extremel interesting. The females in particular actually use sex as a means of acquiring things that they want. It's really quite fascinating. The females have also been known to use inter-social bonds to gang up and ovrethrow the males. Cool stuff.

Yeah, they actually are sex crazed. They're one of the only other mammals that has sex for fun.

They are very sexually active. I've heard they engage in incest as well. Jackal may correct me on that if I'm wrong.

I understand that you're kidding around but it still brings up a point. All of these tests that show similar monkeys are to people really don't amount to too much. Just because the behavious is similar to people doesn't mean we can make them into ape-people. The bottom line is that they're monkeys and we are people. Two very different things. Anthropomorphic analysis is just that much easier because we see them as being our evolutionary "little brothers".

I think the approach of studies like this should be more to illustrate that humans are no more than animals, with a lot of the same tendencies, than to try to point out how a few animals may be 'almost as good as us' in the intelligence department.

And monkeys and dolphins are different too...the idea here isn't to make 'ape-people' - but, like rook mentioned, to show that many common human behaviors are exhibited to some degree in apes. Self-awareness, sharing, etc....the very rudimentary beginnings of the complex behaviors that humans exhibit. I still think the monkey's paying with their juice to see 'monkey porn' is pretty amazing. heh.
