Levelmakers.com Quake 3 Arena Speed Mapping Session
Some members of levelmakers.com and other mapping communities decided to continue the speed mapping sessions we had at map-center.com a while ago. Speed mapping is about creating levels for video games in a very limited time frame. It's a fun event held by the community for the community.
The next event will be held at
Sunday, Jan 11th and everybody's free to join us! The maps will be for some strange and violent FPS game known as
Quake 3 Arena.
Check out the latest info at our
dedicated speedmapping website and
the thread at LM for more info.
See you on IRC!

How much time do you have to finish a map, edit: nm I found it 75 min.
Another question: I read that you can only use models from Q3 and not Team Arena models but how about custom models made within the time frame?

Sure, you can use them if you made em in the time frame. It should also be ok to use models not made in the time frame (we can discuss that) unless your whole map consists of pre-made models.

I was thinking to just do a hole map out of a model and import it as a single piece. I don't think I would have any time to split it up and create structural brushes. I even doubt I will be able to make it on that time frame, but isn't that what speed mapping as all about challenge the time and see what you can come up with.
I was thinking of setting everything up before the time starts and what I mean with that is to load all the images I would be using into my 3d program. Would that be cheating?

Sure man, go ahead.

Na, preparing your programs and stuff ahead of time's fine. There's no prices and we're not interested in calling cool things ppl come up with cheating (on the contrary!). Just do anything that feels right to you. I adapted the rules on the website, they now say that models made within the timeframe are fine.
What feels right to you will also be fine with the other participants and I guess that's the best guideline.

This is about creating maps and having fun, not judging them. We never had ppl cheating and we don't expect that to change. Here's some of the results from former map-center sessions, btw:

Thanks for the answers and that you changed some of the rules for me.
Unfortunately I won't be able to make it. I got a sport activity during that time. I'll be happy join another session though.

that has always been an issue for me: timeframe.
I've never been able to get online when the speedmapping session was going on and when I finally did I would get interrupted by outside sources.
I would participate in this round but I have a full schedule tomorrow (lol?)
Good luck guys

@g0th-: Np, maybe you'll make it to one of the next sessions then! I'll announce them here.
@Silicone_Milk: Tell me about that.

And there's also the time
zone aspect and such things...
