Why do games look so plastic these days?

I've been playing this game all day and its so much fun its stupid. Loving' every second of it. And the visual style rocks so much. You guys gotta check it out:

Low poly count
check out the "shine" factor

i got as far as this: "LEGO Star Wars chronicles the first three episodes of George Lucas' popular science-fiction trilogy" and decided it must be crap

they should put a warning label on the box.
"WARNING: this game is about the gay starwars... not the good ones."
