Strafe jumping question!

Hi
I read the guides and all but I still need some tips. I watched the Genesis movie where he demonstrates the strafe jumps and he is using the hud to stay in the right speed zone. I tried using the hud but I couldn't get the speed I wanted. How do I stay in the prefered zone? I can get decent speed when I am using multiple strafe jumps but on a single jumps I can't get any juice. Any tips are welcome. Thanks.

I'm not as good as many are at strafejumping, but try straferunning into the jump, so it's kind of like a circle-jump.
If that's the video I think it is, it's for CPM physics, which have more air control so I think the strafejumping is different even for the first jump. What I said is for VQ3 physics. [Edit: I mean you might get further cause of the air control. The movement along the ground might be different aswell, though (it feels like it is, it's like you're sliding about rather than stepping), so the straferunning might have a different effect on the strefejump.]

Just 1 run on OPC1 but clean and very clear circle jump: start at a 90° angle for the first jump.
Another example for the first jump, the rest of the jumps are half beat but the first jump is still the same.

Oh I saw a bit of that video before and thought it was CPMA physics cause that's what the description next to the video said. I watched the whole thing this time and it's VQ3 physics. Good video

Well I tried OPC map and I can make 1 st jump but then my speed just goes down and I can't make the second one. What am I doing wrong? How do I maintain speed?

If your speed actually drops (instead of just not increasing enough) you probably touched the pad for too long.

Yeah I am finally beginning to get it in my blood. I actually managed to do like 3 or 4 pads. Slowly I will get there. What helped me a lot is I set the jump to my mouse wheeldown. I was used to it from my old Half Life 2 dm days. Now I got a problem. The mouse wheeldown jumping stopped working. I got it set alright in my setup but it just doesn't work. What could be wrong? Is there a console command so I can set it up from there?
Thanks.

/bind mwheeldown +moveup
Or just '/bind mwheeldown' to see what it's currently bound to.

That didn't work. What did work is I set up my Copperhead mouswheel from scrolling function to click function and now it works.
By the way what are you pros using as a jump button?

Space
I recently taught myself halfbeat strafing and im never looking back. Single-beating is way difficult, i could never strafe any higher than the blue pads on cos1_beta7b. Now, thanks to halfbeat, i frequently overjump pads on opc1.
And yeah, space to jump, holy four to move.
