This is mostly a unique british annoyance. It's become fashionable for every moron to say "basically,.. " in almost every sentence. It's really irritating. Irritating like "you know" or "you know what I'm sayin?". It's a gap filler in conversation which is unnecessary and predictable. And often when someone says " Basically.." where they should be summing up a situation, they launch into a detailed explanation.

but i agree drum. there was a guy at work who would start almost all sentences with "with all due respect", even though it had no conversational value whatsoever.

Yep I agree, people who say "yeah no", "like", and "with all due respect" are mormons.
Other pet hates are " it ticks all the boxes",
and "at the end of the day".
Oh, and "literally" .
