I need to get ICQ to talk to a friend of mine, what's the best version out there? Anything without banners, etc?

Btw, no, I don't want to use trillian.

ICQ 5 with a banner cracker works fine here.

Fuck man, if you want to talk to your friend but there's banners distracting you from the converstation, there's something you could try called "ritalin"

I actually found it a bit faggy. It looks great, but the messaging behaviour I couldn't get to work as I wanted. I just wanted the regular split window (history above, message below) and a task bar notification on new message...

Unfortunately GAIM insisted on opening tabs for each new message, and I couldn't find an option to keep them closed until I clicked the taskbar.

So I gave up and went back to Miranda.

Not sure which version you had, but I spent about 5 minutes configuring it, I also hated the open in tabs feature, which is now disabled, I also have a history of the last conversation when I open a message window to speak with someone. And lastly it also remains in the taskbar flashing until I click to open. I didn't mind spending a few minutes configuring, because trullian was just getting too annoying for me, it seemed all the features were making IMing a chore.

I also locked all message fonts and sizes for all those annoying fags who use gay fonts like 30pt bold purple fonts on yellow backrounds. All my windows come up in black and white Comic Sans 9pt. To specify which font and size you need to edit a small GTK file but only takes 3 seconds.

I was considering miranda, but I have my GAIM perfect so it's not a priority.

Stick with it, Miranda doesn't have anything desirable over GAIM bar its standalone ability. Being able to run from a pendrive is cool.

I may fire up GAIM again soon and find the settings I need, thanks.
