Best Quake 1 / 2 versions?

Post by Therac-25 »

What's the current state of the art for Quake 1 and 2 implementations for single player? I wanted to jump into these, but the glquake 1 executable doens't even start on Linux anymore, and I would assume Quake 2 would be in a roughly similar state.

I've always used Fitzquake for quake1. I wouldn't know for q2.

http://egl.quakedev.com/ <-- spiffy Q2 engine I like. The catch is you need to compile it from source on *NIX systems.

Vanilla, or for multiplayer, r1q2

all those q2 engines out there just focus on the gl renderer only with stupid particle systems with none of the annoying quake2 gl bugs fixed.

I would've half expected o'dium to plug Quake 2 Evolved here. Since he didn't, I'll do it for him :) http://www.quake2evolved.com
By the way, how's overdose coming along?

Sorry to interrupt, but I seem to have lost my shortcut to Rogue in my last comp melt down. Anyone know how to address a new shortcut?

Coming along great, but we have moved:

http://www.teamblurgames.com/q2e for Q2E

http://www.teamblurgames.com/overdose for OD :p

For Quake2 I can recommend Quake2Max http://quake2max.planetquake.gamespy.com/
