So, the iPhone 2.0 update...

...is pretty damn cool, apart from the whole "wiping all of your music off the phone" thing. App store stuff works fine although there's obviously a pretty controlling setup. Have already tried out the ebook reader and the iPhone version of Epocrates and they're pretty slick. Anyone else tried this thing?

Yeah, I never did the jailbreak thing, seemed like a bit too much effort. Hence it's the business. Can finally stop carrying my ageing Palm around as an ebook reader

The jailbreak thing was a 40 second effort you slacker, well at least with Installer.app
I'm waiting for the iPod Touch 2.0 update so I can install goodies likes Remote and eReader :-)

The downside of the eReader app is that you seem to be limited to stuff you download directly from their site, which if you haven't looked recently consists mostly of Star Trek novels and soft porn. There's another app called Bookshelf which is a lot more flexible in terms of the media used, but not quite as slick.
Oh, and PhoneSaber is hilarious for about a nanosecond.

I thought the iTouch was cool, but why didn't they ever make a childrens version? what's wrong with the iTouch Kids?

I just un-jail broke my ipod to check out the new update but since so many people are downloading it I keep getting a failure message. Fuckers.

if you google iPhone update, the first hit gives you a URL for the software, which might work even if iTunes updating isn't

I don't have an iPhone, but it sounds like the latest update makes it work with Exchange Server for company mail, which is a big plus.

Yup, I will be getting one soon to test it's compatibility with Exchange 2007. If it works well it's going to be a nightmare enforcing our mobile policy.

at least you have a mobile policy in place. for some reason that's the last thing on admins minds in a corporate setting. not a good thing.
p.s. getting mine this week.

Yeah that would be a plus if it weren't that the company I work are the only idiots on the planet using Lotus Notes.

Why is that? Does the iPhone not lend itself to enabling good security practices?

No kidding. My fiance's blackberry didn't even have a password on it - and she's a high level finance manager. =\

i think he means the push-back or resistance clients have in that area. it's a lot easier to enforce restrictions to digital audio players and flash drives than mobile devices.

Security portion aside, another element of our mobile policy is you need to keep your phone for 1 year minimum before upgrading. Every time a new model blackberry comes out everyone would magically break or loose their old on. We instituted a policy that required them to pay for phone replacements under a year it slowed them down a little.
The iPhone I guarantee will spark a mass Blackberry bashing and sadly we will not be offering the iPhone to 99% of our employees.
