I've been playing "Undying"

and it absolutely owns the shit out of Doom3. Can't believe I missed this one the first time round. Pity no-one's ever going to give it a graphics upgrade, but at least I can run it at stupid resolution with anisotropic filtering thanks to ATI overrides. The sound work is spooky as fuck, too.

That said, I've also been playing Doom3 on veteran and it suddenly doesn't suck as much, although it still spawns 5 imps one after another in the same place and lets you plug them in the head with the shotgun before they've even appeared.

It's a "headhones and the lights off" kind of deal. But yeah, you do need to get out of the house before the level design picks up. But any game in which you can magically persuade your enemies to blow their own heads off is alright by me :)

Undying is one of my all time favourites. :icon14: :icon14:
Sadly it disappeared again so fast and isn't really widely known. It really has a nicely scary and creepy atmosphere. The only thing I didn't like was the end boss: 08/15 giant tentacle monster which didn't fit into the rest of the game.

I'm going to have to d/l the demo. I remember hearing about this game a while ago, but never gave two flips 'till now.

Undying rocks.

It didn't get the attention it deserved IMHO.

Hmm. I'm in the lost world bit and it's a trifle "Unreal filler"; otherwise it's been great so far though.

OK finished. It was pretty cool.

Anyone know how their soft shadowing system worked? It's pretty neat and seems to have almost no performance impact. Good stuff, for the time

I seem to remember it having really bad irish accents.
And the african themed level was shit.
But it was alright, the rest of it.

Load screens every 30 seconds and absolutely toss level design
I only played about 20 minutes of it though.
If I hit a boredom spike I might have another look at it and give it more of a chance though
Same...

Good game, but it didn't scare me at all. I had heard so much hype about how scary it was and I think that ruined it. Highlights for me were going back in time at the monastery, and the last level in oneiros.

I think the fact that gothboy didn't like it is the best recommendation it could get.

Far Cry was pretty good too, though I never finished it. Really atmospheric.

Not that you did any actual work on it, I'm just bringing it up out of coincidence.

For the most part I liked the game. I got it when it first came out and finished it in a couple days time. I never found it super scary, but one thing that I did like and got to me a little was that sickle. It was the thought of knowing that the more you used it, the more you knew you where to be damned.
