5 gigapixel image of our galaxy

NASA took over 800,000 infrared pictures of our galaxy, all combining up to a 400,000 by 13,000 pixel image.

There's also a Google Earth-ish viewer here: http://www.alienearths.org/glimpse/
The numbers are quite impressive but for a space-noob like myself, the visual end result is rather dull tbh.
