So I finally managed to get that damn thing started and believe me it was a HELL of an effort needed to get to this point... well, here we are and after modifying this and that in the preferences to get my old settings to look exactly as they did in 1.2.1, I still feel about a few things.

1) Where the hell did the z-axis-scale go? I'm talking of all these nice numbers at the left side indicating how long your brushes are going to be. There's even the option to set them to a nice color inside another menu (there they are called 'grid text') so why can't I see them?

2) Simple as it is: Compiling. Trying anything of these options such as -vis fast and so on only results in an error message telling me that my 'maps' dir is nowhere to be found. Strangely the editor doesn't seem to have a problem locating that folder when 'saving [my map] as...' So what the dilliyo?!?

Phew... a few more of these 'happenings' and I'll start ripping that version apart

1) I think you're looking for size info:
Edit > Preferences > Settings > Orthographic > Display size info

2) Compiling is anything but simple but it doesn't mean that it should be hard. Although GtkRadiant does use Q3Map2, its built in compile menu is pretty lacking considering the amount of options available to Q3Map2. For that, I recommend Q3Map2Toolz if you're not the kind of person who wants to write your own batch file.

That said, I'm willing to guess that you're running into some sort of issue with the -vis stage not compiling correctly (-vis fast instructs the compiler to essentially skip vis). You'll have to log Q3Map2's output to find out exactly what's going on.

First's first: I got the compliling problem fixed... don't remember how I did it exactly but must have been some kind of broken map, so no big deal! Still, thanks for that nice Toolz-link!

Regarding the GTK Radiant 1.5.0 problems: they still remain (the few ones causing me trouble): what I meant with the "z-axis-scale" are the coordinates drawn on the edge of the grid, and the orthographic section couldn't help me with that, I've tried it before. Maybe this other problem is somehow connected: I also don't see the short texture descriptions written above each pic in the texture window (i.e. wall_2 and so on) any more (which worked in v.1.2.1). As always, I'm counting on your experience, obsidian and - as always - thanks for your forthcoming answers... may they help my editor to get to a point where I find it useable for editing too not only for compiling.

They got rid of the z-axis-scale because it's not entirely all that useful. You can just hit ctrl+tab to cycle between the different views. Or you can change the layout to the quad view so you can view your brushes from all 3 axes.

I don't recall what you mean by texture descriptions, it's been ages since I've used a version as old as 1.2.1. There is a shader info feature under the view menu of the texture browser, but that doesn't tell you anything useful.
