Skylight in Quake 4/Doom 3

What's the best way to create skylight in Doom 3/Quake 4? I seached for it in google, but I couldn't find anything but ways to make ambient lighting in Doom 3. How is it done in these games? I know how to make the sky, just not how to get light from it. I tried putting a point light with high value in the corner of the sky, but couldn't get it to look good.

I'll take the oportunity and ask another question while I'm at it. Why is the Q4 Editor so slow? Everything I do in it lags, even when I'm all zoomed in and not using realtime rendering. I'm using the default settings basically. This is really frustrating and makes me miss good old GtkRadiant.

BTW, anyone using GtkRadiant 1.5? I tried it when it came out but didn't like it much, liked 1.4 better. Maybe 1.5 is better than id's editor though.

The q4 editor can be slow if you're using multiple monitors. try disable all but one and see if the hacks still remains.

I'm not using more than one monitor.

The Doom 3 engine can be notoriously slow when certain complex materials are selected and showing in the material panel. Try clicking off whatever texture is showing in the panel and it should speed things up.

This is on first load mate, as in, straight away, not clicked anything. Its been doing it on and off since I got a Geforece 6800 years ago. The cards before that were fine. Even though on my 8800GT it does it?
