If this is for real I can't wait, but it does have the scent of "ginger" to it...

It's hard to say exactly how the public will react to a new innovation being posited by electronics giant Sony.

The Japanese firm has been granted a patent for a device that beams sensory information directly into your brain.

And while the company admits it hasn't actually conducted any real tests yet, it believes its innovation could be the wave of the future for more than just videogames.

I think it'll flop like the virtual boy.

I can't wait to hear people trading smells online. Only for there to be a select few that lie about the smell and really give them "fart".

heard about this a few days ago - sounds interesting, but I don't think we have the technology or knowledge to be able to create high resolution perceptions by direct brain stimulation.

I'd love to read more details about this project.

Julios nailed it, inducing high resolution perceptions will be very difficult using this (ultrasound) technology.
