I've read the info on the links that tnf and saturn posted, but I still have a question. Are the electrocytes similar to small capacitors?

What happens when the electrocyte cells are connected in parallel? Is it the same thing as a bunch of batteries connected in parallel? what happens then?

Connecting cells in parallel? I don't think that's possible. Isn't parallel wiring limited to things with a positive and a negative terminal?

A cell has a potential difference across it, so it does have a negative and a positive terminal...

Just seems hard to do it without static/stationary points of contact. But I know jack shit about microbiology/nanotechnology, so I'm probably just showing my limited understanding.
