The Canadian Dollar jumps again

The seemingly unstoppable Canadian dollar traded at a 47½-year high Monday,
hitting 104.69 cents US late in the morning. The currency hit a level unseen
since early 1960 - when John Diefenbaker was prime minister and
Dwight Eisenhower was still in the White House.

The loonie has risen more than 18 cents US this year, as several factors
converged to drive it to parity with its U.S. counterpart and beyond,
including record-high oil prices and a weak greenback. Another element hurting
the U.S. dollar, in relation to the loonie and other currencies, is the likelihood
that the U.S. Federal Reserve will cut interest rates again this week in an
attempt to boost the American economy.

Right now;

100.00 CAD = 104.875 USD
100.00 CAD = 72.7102 EUR

"Unstoppable"? It's only strong compared to the blood-smeared US dollar. It's still as worthless as it used to be in the world.

Well thats the main point, the value of the US dollar is going way down.
Canadian money is worth more than theirs. Payback hurts, better get used to it.

think a canadian dollar was about 60 us cents a few years back (last time i needed canadian money). can't remember what that'd be in proper money at the time, but it wouldn't be worth picking up off the floor.

i wish there was some way the american dollar could be sorted out - we're losing business in what used to be a pretty good market because the shit just isn't worth the paper it's printed on :(

I heard that people would tolerate up to $4 per gallon , don't europeans pay more than that already?

I think when it stays above $3 for an extended time here in the US we'll start to see people alter their behavior. And by alter their behavior I mean complain to their Congressional representatives until they pass some sort of retarded bill that will just make things worse.

It's also gone up relative to the rest of the world. Not as much as compared to the US dollar, but it has gotten stronger internationally. I think I remember it being worth only about 60 'eurocents' several years ago.

it may help revive your manufacturing sector. producing actual goods instead of trying to sell some shit service nobody really needs is good for the country's backbone.

Yeah may help, then again your economy and your currency might come to a complete and utter crash once noone wants to buy the dollar anymore. The US has a massive account deficit, if it's not funded by people willing to buy a buck, things WILL go sour.

Great for the average Canadian consumers and snowbirds but catastrophic for many cies/industries. There was a big real estate developement project going on in Fla. from one of our Quebec Entrepreneur and it all went down because of this.

I don't like what this is going to do to the movie industry in Canada. All those big Hollywood movies that are being recorded in Canadian cities and studios, they are going to find it expensive now. But on more realistic terms, who cares? Strong Canadian dollar is a beautiful thing for the consumers in Canada. Thing will be cheaper. When I go to eBay and see all the prices in US dollars, I know that they are actually now even cheaper, because of the strong Canadian dollar.
