Can anyone suggest a browser that only displays text, so I could surf websites at a decent speed when my upload is consumed by torrent and stuff? It feels worse than 56K when I sur while downloading.

In IE: Tools -> Internet Options... -> Advanced -> Multimedia -> Uncheck "Show pictures"

Opera: View -> Style -> User Mode -> Emulate Text Browser.

Or for a nicer look, shift-F11 for the small screen browser.

Yeah but that keeps the HTML elements like tables and the image placeholders are typically there.

Yeah, but the tables are just layout and consume almost no bandwidth.

Speaking of bandwidth, it would seem to be a waste of Toxicbug's bandwidth to download the World's Least Popular Browser.

Indeed. The kid gets all bent out of shape when his freeby piece of shit Linux browser gets crushed and trashed by Opera.

Simply the BEST browser on Earth, the FASTEST browser on the planet: Opera.

There's one for linux called "links" that's a shitload better than Lynx. I'll see if I can track down a Winders port.

edit:

Hate to admit it (especially since Rep mentioned it first) but Opera IS the fastest browser out there.

The difference is negligable at best.

Says some guy with a site no one had ever heard of before, based on tests on an 800 mhx P3 with 256 mb of RAM. Holy shit, lets end it all, those results must ALWAYS be true for everyone!

Hmm, I just noticed he has an entire page devoted to bullshit Opera stuff...

Shhh, the entire army of open-sourced idiots couldn't disprove any of it under fair circumstances.

Opera wins. You lose.

ie is is bundled with an operating system because these days it's as important to include a browser as it is a text editor. mozilla/firefox is a free open-source alternative that runs on the same operating system. that's why folks talk about and compare the two.

opera does what it's supposed to do, but its £25. that's why folks don't give a fuck about it. who cares if it's marginally faster or supports more tabs?

edit, that links thing needs cygwin?
