The best Quake3 indie-maps of all time WANTED!

Hi, my name is Wilko, the modder formerly known as Herr W.

Some of you may have heard of my MONKEYS of DOOM, announced as “the cartooniest shooter of all time”. - Not long ago a Quake3-mod and still based on that technology.
For those of you who haven’t: This is mainly about naked people fighting with monkeys! If that subject arouses your interest and you want more filthy details, check out the website
http://www.monkeysofdoom.org!
So far, so good… so what?! Well, as you have read, it’s unfortunately only “Wilko’s MONKEYS of DOOM”, not “Wilko and his big, highskilled, unbelievably talented crew of fantastic mappers’ MONKEYS of DOOM”. So, what the project is suffering from is an unpleasant lack of maps!
That’s especially bad as I plan to release MONKEYS of DOOM as a standalone game in the not-so-far future. – And here YOU come into play: You built some great Q3-maps in your youth? The community played them, loved them… and meanwhile forgot them?
Bring them back to life! Send them in until november 30th 2007, and the best maps will be cartoonized and part of MONKEYS of DOOM! Even better: The chosen ones will gain 150$ for each of those maps I use for MONKEYS of DOOM. - I know, that’s not to laugh one’s head off, but my budget is small, and it’s money for work already done.
So, don’t hesitate: Dive down into depths of your harddrive and bring up the old treasures! – Then send them to
maps@monkeysofdoom.organd - with a little luck - you earn the money and read your name in the credits and the loading-screen!
Let’s hear from you!
Wilko
PS: If you are not a mapper by yourself but know a map that shouldn’t miss in MONKEYS of DOOM, please let me know! Maybe I can get in contact with it’s creator and convince him or her to contribute it.

LEGAL INFO:
- This game will be released as a total conversion stand-alone game using a modified Quake 3 Engine and released under the GPL license provided by id Software.
- The GPL does NOT cover id Software game assets (textures, models, sound, etc). Those are protected by the original Quake 3 EULA preventing distribution. The game will NOT feature any id Software assets and do not submit any copyrighted assets or any other work that is not your own.
- From what I understand, Wilco is looking for just the .map files including only raw brush work.

Most likely it's simply a 'custom map'.
EDIT: the rest of this post no longer appied, removed it.

You are not permitted by the Quake 3 EULA to sell maps or mods for commercial or other purposes.
Feel free to post a new thread if you reconsider how you are going to go about this.

Edited the first post with the legal info bit.
The main concern was the distribution of copyrighted game assets. With my discussion with Wilco, it's apparent that he's just looking for .map files only, not complete maps (.pk3's) including assets.
I double checked with id Software as well on the legal stuff, so as long as it's just the GPL'd code and .map files, they're okay with it.

I'd be happy to send you any of my .map files. Feel free to check out my levels at
http://pjw.planetquake.gamespy.com and let me know if you're interested in any of them in particular. I don't need the $150; put it toward making the game better, or buying a coder/artist a ham sandwich or a hooker or something.
I'm curious about how you're doing the retexturing. Hopefully something a bit less asstastic than find/replace?

Cool! Good to be sure about that now!

I already knew some of your maps ("Guns", "Beneath...", "Harder than hate") and those are awesome! If the others are as good, I see a future full of sandwiches, hookers and great MoD-Maps for myself

... "Asstastic", "asstastic"... Has that something to do with asses? You guys shouldn't use words that are not in my German/English dictionary
In the end the maps should match the grafic style and standard of the player-models, which is going to be a lot of work... Could happen, that I have to hire someone to help me with that (- less sandwiches and hookers for myself

)

If I can find the source files for my 'cave' maps (kat1024 and katdm5) I'll send those along. Same goes for me with the money, for the same reasons (except the hooker bit unless that's to hang a coat on).

I think he means this guy:
I've been thinking of releasing the .map files for my own maps for some time. Why not ey. [sarcasm]They're obviously the best so.[/sarcasm]

Great! I know those maps, too, and they would fit perfectly! Hope you find them...

Yeah, why not?! - "Darkness of Christ" for example would also fit perfectly for MONKEYS of DOOM!
So, if you all still like, I suggest starting with some of the smaller maps. I think pjw's "Tandoori Despair", kat's two cave maps and ALMighty's "Darkness of Christ" would be best to start with. And if you don't mind, I would like to release the cartoonized results to show other mappers how this is intended to look like.
Thank you all!

The .map-files of the maps I made are GPL'd anyways. Just
>grab them< if you want them.

Hmmn. I'll send you that .map if you want, but IMO that's not *that* great of a level. For one thing, it was made in just a couple of days and is pretty simple and symmetrical.
If you're taking suggestions, I'd say that
Hot and Moist and
Harder Than Hate are both better small maps...

Wow, I just checked out "Hot and Moist" and it looks awesome with the rain in the inner yards! I think for MoD that could play in some kind of jungle-temple. "Harder than Hate" sure is a great map too, but I haven't had an idea in what kind of scenery that space station could be transformed yet... Hightech and my naked people don't fit very good. - Anyone here with a suggestion?!

I just PMed you a link to Hot and Moist (apologies for any crappy brushwork, etc.--2002 was a long time ago).
If you decide how/if you want to use Harder Than Hate, or want a larger map or maps (e.g. perhaps
Jumping To Contusions or maybe
Jam Number 17), just let me know.

- Got it! Thanks!
I'm curious to see how this is gonna look as a cartoon-map. But that can take quite a while, I guess... I'm gonna post it here as soon as there is something presentable!

ACHTUNG-ACHTUNG! A technical problem with my mailserver occured during the last couple of days, so some maps you have tried to send in may not have reached me!
Sorry for that, please send them again!
