Got an art commission

An up-and-coming band named The Junktones has given me the opportunity to design a CD cover for them. What they wanted was a girl drawn in a 50's style pin-up wearing nothing but hot pants, shown on the left from shoulder to thighs in the middle of a desert with a car driving off on the right. The environment colours should be plain and 60's-looking. Apparently emphasis should be on the ass as they want the band logo there.
I just finished the first version of the front and sent it to the lead vocalist. What do you think so far?

My bad. He pretty much said "hot pants or anything similar".

aye.
that's not a flame mazda, the picture just sucks.
google for more source material, or rework whatever you traced for that one - stick to comic book style line art with fills and no smudgy bits (e.g the cloud behind the car and the hair look horrible). the image will probably need to be reprinted at various resolutions if the band are using it to promote something, line art will stand up to that much better than anything else.
when the linework is done and you're happy with it, you can colour the lines a little darker than the fills - provided the colours are rich enough and the lines are curvy enough, you should end up with that 50s commercial art look.
and those aren't hotpants, and give her bigger tits.

She looks like she's wearing a fur diaper, her left shoulder looks pushed too far forward, the dust is excessive, and her tits aren't big enough.

The Fratellis had a great 50s style pin-up cover to their album Costello Music:

That image is great concept of layout, but it absoutely can not be the final product.
You need to look at a lot of eara source material and pictures. Specialy WW2 airplane logos they used. Fallout like artwork. Ever heard of Betty?
Need help? Check for PM for refrence pictures and artwork

Oh and don't do it on the computer using gradients because it looks like you did it on the computer using gradients.

I assume this is a rough draft. You guys are blowing it way out of proportion.
Mazda, you may want to play with an overly dramatic perspective for the picture. Maybe angled from ground-up. Get more of the car and the horizon it's driving into in order to really show that it's driving away from the chick. Oh, and don't clip her elbow off of the lefthand side like that.

Is it suppose to look like a cartoon or more realistic.
And yes, the furry diaper and small titties must go.

besides the lack of tits, the car has an odd roof line.

I say outsource the whole fucking thing before your blinding incompetence causes you to lose the assignment. Ask Dave to make a stylish black and white picture and use that, then give him 80% of the proceeds.

I'm going to try to actually be constructive here.
Mazda, you need to study anatomy if you're going to do this sort of thing professionally. Her back is not arched properly and her legs are going off on strange angles.
The perspective is way off too. You need to draw some guidelines before you work in the detail that you have here. The car is whacked out in a weird perspective and the way you drew her left arm is out of perspective as well (plus its longer than her right).
Her breast is way too low as well.
Finally, you're committing the #1 sin of digital art by clumsily mixing your mediums. It looks like you used an airbrush to create the dust effect and then an acrylic brush to make her hair have the texture that it does.
Finally the "hotpants" look like you used some sort of canned PS texture and it is terribly jarring to the eye. Do a tutorial on how fabric looks in an artistic medium and you should be able to make it work, for god's sake though don't use what you have.
