good 'ol yngwie

having a hard time finding someone else with this amount of speed that actually makes a decent song, or solo I guess I should say.

This guy is a machine when it comes to speed.

don't know if his actual songs are worth a shit, but the guy can tear an arpeggio or two up.

For anyone who doesn't know who he is... he reminds me almost of Iron maiden. Not really sure why, just has that feal to me. but just think of it as a overall faster more powerfull version of maiden. with an almost constant solo.

alot of tapping, and a bit of fingerpicking
I'm guessing one of his songs it has a name anyway.
Acoustic jam An amazing riff here towards the middle
Far beyond the sun intro atleast is worth a listen.
blue

Thoughts?

edit edit edit... white colored font is just fine i guess..

I'm not going to say anyone's better than anyone else, but I enjoy both Yngwie and Steve Vai for many of the same reasons.

All he can do is play fast, that's it. He couldn't play with his heart if he was holding it in his hand

no, not shredding speed in particular... I guess his name alone kind of set the standard for this thread. any type of speed, rather it be simply rythem guitar with alot of palm muting and power chords, or a bluesy lead solo with with a slides and slow bends. Any style of guitar is welcome.

is that all really.

that sure seems like a lot of talent/skill/work ethics to just be fast. I guess I didn't see all his short comings in the above vids...

he's great at doing what he does and no doubt has taken his whole life to perfect, but he's just playing predetermined patterns at insane speeds, which, to me takes away from his playing. it's impressive but personally i'd rather see someone pour their heart out over a 6/8 blues.

bork man its funny you mention yngie cuz latly ive been thinking about shredding and stuff and spec'ing the sherdderd on you tube too.

i kinda came the same conclusion as you about yng!

i like his playing dynamics,
, his tone, his choice of guitars and amps, playing style.

i was recently gonna make a shred post but eh i'm shy !

i cant shred but i been working on my technique and its strenthening nicely so i wanted to explore some.

ey doen get me wrong i'm very amused with all the top shredders, my fav imo atm is yng the vai then that deigo guy,

I get what you mean to say, but implying that he can "just" and "only" play accurately at insane speeds is and stays supremely retarded.

Steve Vai is better musically, IMO. He may not be as fast (although I suspect he could be), but his musical ideas are of a higher standard.

Indeed, it is Malmsteen's vibrato which is totally outstanding. And you can hear it on every single song of him - unless you're a moron?

So many styles to pick any one better than another.

I think Yngwie is as has been said the most speed and precision skilled of all and I like his style and preference for Stratocaster, but I would like to see him play some stuff with more rich and fat sounds and see how well he does. I'm sure really well.

I also like Steve Via and his style and preference for Ibenez, and Zakk Wylde and his preference for Les Paul.

If you mean any type of guitar and who plays really well there is Billy Sheenan on base and the King Stu Hamm! WOOT!
Also there is Earl Scruggs on banjo.
