All CGI...? I never knew, thought it was gonna be live action.

The first few bits looked like live action then later it looked like CGI.
Why did they do that?

it's all CGI. it looks even gayer than that "Tristan + Isolde" that came out a couple years ago with James Franco (aka that guy from Freaks&Geeks).

I'm sure it will all look a lot better by the time it hits theatres. Back when they were releasing trailers for The Matrix Reloaded, there were three successive trailers showing that high-angle reverse-zoom of the Twins' SUV exploding, and the first one was just the explosion as it was filmed, for the second one they had added a shockwave and a flying tire with CGI, and I think the third one showed the twins flying through the air.

Any Angelina in there? I'm almost at my monthly cap.

Neil Gaiman co-wrote the screenplay and it has Crispin Glover in it.

Why the fuck did they CG the REAL actors? seems like the most retarded idea ever. Obviously, the CG characters can never be as good as their reallife counterparts...

Now fans will sit in the theater and go: "That's SOO not how Angelina would have said that line!"

I think the CGI looks great.
I question making a movie about something like Beowulf though. I doubt that it will have anything to do with the poem at all.

cgi looks good. i think they wanted the story book look and cgi was the perfect solution.
cgi aside, nerds, it's the story that counts.

Huh?! Have you read the poem? It has virtually no action in it at all except for the killing of the mother and the killing of Grendel. Unless the go into the "previous heroics" of Beowulf I can't see how this translates to a film at all.

Beowulf is an epic poem? I didn't know that.

The original story is very slow, but it has it's moments. The three main parts are the fight with Grendel; the fight with his mother; and the battle with the dragon. There are various digressions as well, but some of them wouldn't make much sense in a cinematic version.

But to make a film which would interest a modern audience, Beowulf will need a certain amount of modification. There are some elements which could be expanded for their dramatic potential. Nor is there any love interest in the original, but the poem was written in the Age of Heroic Epic long before the troubadors started roaming around southern France looking for babes to serenade and shag.

Neil Gaiman is doing the screenplay. I think he'll do a fine job.

My take on Gaiman is that he's good at the art, but no writer. Perhaps I'll be pleasantly surprised when the film comes out.

I thought he also did the art as well as the words for the Sandman series (graphic novel) and was more principally an artist than a writer. I know he's written several novels.

Neverwhere was made into a miniseries which is also good.
