Anyone have Joint Operations?

Just curious.

I'm talking about Joint Operations: Typhoon Rising, not the expansion pack "Escalation." I've seen a few people talking about it and was wondering if any others have it? It's a cheap game, but it's loads of fun. It also has the right amount of bugs, so there are plenty of fun situations you can dream up. For example, driving a boat around on land, or any number of other goofy things. Most of these tricks are hard to learn, so it's not like every fucker is flying a jeep, or walking around with one of the humvee-mounted grenade launchers, but it's possible.

Edit: Now, the Novalogic guys told me that they have some nice tri-strip system in place, and therefor the high poly models are fine, but I still saw a lot of areas where they could have reduced the models, had they done their jobs properly, and shipped a faster game. There are laggy parts, even on a 6800 or x850, but it's mostly smooth.

i fell in love with the 100 player mp demo but never got around to buying it

lol now im filled with nostalgia of doing hummer raids into the main enemies base inside a hanger and using the mounted 50 cal to barricade us and mow down anyone who tried to flush us out :(

too bad novalogic is about the dumbest dev ever. Instead of making a true sequal, they only make an expansion which aint going to bring in new players so now the community is shrinking quickly.

Played it for a bit, then decided i got more out of BF:V. Never tried the expansion though...

I think the 'two bullets and you're dead' thing combined with the fact that everyone got off on sniping bugged me the most - especially on those gigantic maps where you often had to travel for minutes to get to the fight...

People don't snipe anymore, and the real game is TOTALLY different than the demo.

The real game's Advance and Secure (AS) mode has up to 26 bases to capture per map. There are maps where you can play in the morning and work your way up to C base, and then when you get home at night, they're still working on grabbing J... If the players are willing to keep it going that long.

Usually, it takes about an hour or two to finish a map.

The other good mode is Team King of the Hill. TKOTH is nice, and can be completed in under an hour.

The map in the demo is different too. A lot of things were changed. In fact, the other maps are so much better, the demo map isn't even touched.

Stocktroll, Novalogic is working on a new engine right now. Due to the popularity of Joint Operations, it'll probably be for Joint Operations 2, but that's most likely due out in late 2006 to mid 2007.

Joint Operations has plenty of pixel shader effects, and all the goodies that people now love, like normal maps and similar new tech... I can only imagine what they have in store for the next game, because this one is so nice.

Most servers run 64 players, but I've been in a few 150 player fights with 7 ping. Their netcode is amazing.

In the demo, there were several bugs and things that needed fixed on the snipers. People figured out how to use their lean keys to look through walls and hillsides. Also, the sniper scopes would zoom in and out, and besides the sound, you were very hard to find.

They added a smoke puff coming out the muzzle, a muzzle flash (it's not really bright, it's actually half as bright as any other gun's flash), you can't lean through walls, and they adjusted the accuracy levels on them so you actually have to use your binoculars and plan the shots instead of just shooting it like it's a lame railgun or something.

More people are team players in the full game. I usually play a rambo-medic, but every map has a class that works the best. Sometimes it's nice to be an engineer to take out helicopters and set traps.

People still snipe, but only good snipers. Not just stupid C-S kids.

I've actually seen people acting in realistic squads... A sniper with a spotter, for example.

A fellow rambo-medic and I were camping inside an enemy base last night and I got 30 knife kills in a row. Hilarious shit.

It's mostly prettier and overall imho a little less fun to play. Though there are a lot of things they do better than BF:V, the scoring system, the maps, the classes, the ingame crowd is a little more mature, the netcode etc.

But BF:V just 'feels better' or something, i don't know. I liked it better anyways.

About the sniping rep, i never played the demo - only the full version, after the use-binoculars-to-set-range patch. Still a snipefest. Perhaps it's the euro servers, or perhaps there has been another patch since i last played it.

There have been numerous patches, two of them really dulled down the sniper's power. The smoke puffs really killed it for a lot of the lamers.

I see smoke.
I aim M16.
They die.

AmIdYfReAk, this came out one hundred years before Battlefield: Vietnam.
