Having read 5/7 harry potter books, seen all of the lotr films and read all three books, I don't think you can compare the two unless harry potter upset you personally.

can't help but notice all the hype about the latest/last book of the series. Haven't read one book and haven't even finished the first movie... but as big of a LOTR fan as I am, was wondering if this is worth it.
I loved the old ps2 video game of it (HP that is)...from the few hours I played anyway, never finished it, but seemed decent.
You can tell just by the previews of the movies you can't really compare the two (other than it's not real), so I'm not asking that. Mainly just wondering what really grabbed your attention to this story, what kept you reading/watching.
I feel as though I missed out on something, not even being able to complete the first motion picture of this story. Wouldn't mind starting it now that it just finished.
