The Green Mill on Broadway and Lawrence is an awesome jazz place...used to be a Speakeasy in the 20's...Capone hung out there...it's open til 5am on Friday and Saturday and 3am the other days, I think....

Anywhere on Rush Street and The W Hotels [Lakeshore] Whiskey Sky Bar. Gibsons for a great steak dinner and the desserts are big enough to feed the table.

Head to the theater district to see a show.
If they're performing, see Blue Man Group at the Briar Street Theatre.

If you're into educational stuff, there's always the Art Museum, the aquarium, and the Field Museum.

And be sure to ride the el.

Be sure to get a swim in the lake. thats about all I can remember since I was only 10 at the time I went there.

get tickets to Oprah!

avoid Navy Pier (big area with ferris wheel out in Lake Michigan). its a tourist trap.

the area around it though is nice to walk around. the parks are cool e.g. Millennium Park (i think thats what its called) (its a part of Lincoln/Grant Park).

don't bother going up to the top of the Sears Tower viewing deck or whatever unless you really want to spend a ton of time just staring out there. its like 13 dollars a person.

instead if you want a good view, go to the John Hancock building. its the second tallest building in chicago (also black also has two spires at the top).

theres a viewing deck on the top of the Hancock building on the 96th floor. instead of going there and paying, theres a fancy restaurant and a lounge on the 95th floor that you can go to. if you want a quick peak of the view, just go on that floor and take a quick look around (for free). or if you want to spend some time, go to the lounge, get a drink or some coffee and just chill. i wouldn't recommend going to the restaurant (which is right next to the lounge). its very pricey and overpriced.

the view from there is better than from the sears. you get a nice view of the lake, lake shore dr. the city and sears tower, and you don't have to pay any viewing fee if you go to the 95th floor (unless they changed that in the past few years).
