Wow, I'm really impressed with limewire. I look up jazz and soul stuff mostly, more obscure than most pop, and ares finds nothing, not one thing. I downloaded limewire just now and its come up with practically the whole album straight away and fast as fuck download. Anyone else here swear by limewire?

I tried it once, interface sucked but I did have goodluck with the searches/download. Seemed nice but until I find an old version that takes some of that crap away Im back to Warez.

Limewire is the gnutella network. Always look at the network, not the client that you're running, for an idea of the files available and such.

Also, the ares network has been having problems recently. Many general networking issues and a lot of people flat out not able to connect. Probably a bad time to judge.

I recommend soulseek and direct connect for hard to find material.

Gnutella network is flooded with fake files, IIRC.

gnucleus works very nicely for me.

/and yes, lots of fake files, but only if you download newer stuff. And you shouldn't do that anyway.

But it found a rare jazz/soul album for me which is only possible to buy directly from the artist in america or used copies on amazon. I was gonna buy it from itunes if it had it but it didn't. I did have soulseek once, so I guess I could try that again too.

How is newsleecher on the memory? Xnews seems to eat memory as I add it. I have 1.5 gig and it will get over a GIG ov memory usage on heavy flow days.

With PAR files and better retention it helps alot. Most free providers upped their retention to 4 - 5 days in the last 6 months.

Just checked mine and its running at around 21mb (though I have no queues) even when it is downloading I don't think it uses much more.

Also quickpar: http://www.quickpar.org.uk/ is by far the best sfv / par1/2 fix tool available.

Sounds good. Also if you go into the options you can make it pause par2/nzb files so they don't download automatically (you don't need them most of the time anyway)
