hello all,
i am trying to fool around with level editing for quake 4 however i am running into a few problems.
i cannot get gridlines to show up in the editor. i followed the troubleshooting guide tips that say to turn off AA to alleviate this, however that didnt work. are their any other workarounds? i am running a 8800gtx on windows home vista with 2gb ram.
also textures dont show up, but i think the gridlines thing might have to do with that too.
any ideas?

Maybe post your editor shortcut command line and let us know what switches you're using? Dunno if it will help, but it's worth a shot...if I remember right "0" (the number) toggles grid lines on and off, but if textures aren't showing up either, it sounds like that's not it.

hi pjw, thanks for any help.
hmm im not launching the editor using the command line but rather from quake4.
i can get the gridlines to show up by fooling around with different resolutions and turning off smp. sometimes going down from ultra to high quality helps too. however even if i get gridlines i cant draw brushes. i cant load textures either. i cant walk around in the camera window.
i normally run 1920x1200 ultra high quality with everything on except AA. i dont understand why graphic bugs would prevent me from drawing brushes though? its not that i cant see them, they arent being drawn.

i think im getting somewhere i can now load textures, draw brushes, and drag edges. the only problem is, im guessing the editor windows just arent updating very frequently. it seems like random things cause the views to update, sometimes the views will go completely blank. are these issues related to vista, or perhaps my video card?

You know, we have a sticky thread for getting started with the Q4 editor, you might want to check there first:

What's your monitor's native resolution? Make sure your desktop is set to the native resolution.
Try to launch the editor with a copy of the Q4 shortcut with these arguments (or whatever variants makes sense for you):
+seta com_allowConsole 1 +set r_fullscreen 0 +set r_brightness 1 +set r_multisamples 0 +set r_smp 0 +vid_restart +editor

its a lot better now. i can tell everything is working fine. i can load textures and draw brushes.
the only problem is that the views refresh randomly and not very often.
