Haven't been able to read (as in open) the article yet so this might seem a little ignorant, but isn't AMD working on dual core stuff as well?

Why don't they just make a chip with QUAD CORES? Those assholes.

yes, AMD is working on it.. and they do have some working samples..
but intel is allready passing out working cores to reviewers and etc.
this is why i said they set the first blow.

they are winning on the single core stuff..

as it stands, i would still not buy a intel platform.

let me guess... most those apps need to be coded specifically to take advantage ot the dual cores? well by the time your favorite apps do make the switch, amd will come out with something bigger and better.

well, its normal SMP Programming, so yea.. any proggy out there that allows for two psyical cpu's will take advantige of it
for the HT + Dual core.. you do the math.

These things will be incredible performeres for servers. I wish we had a couple for our Java application servers.

IBM are also working on a dual core G5 CPU, which can also be ran in Dual CPU mode (ie: 4 physical cores @ 64bit).

Intel is done with the naming scheme. The new pentiums are called Pentium D and, in the case of today's processor preview, plain old "Pentium Extreme Edition".

If you read into the reviews at a few sites (techreport, anandtech) they're hinting at the fact that they have an unreleased AMD CPU on their test benches.
I'm not sure if it's dual core or just the upcoming San Diego cores. It's not "just" the Venice for sure.
