k how do i get simple stereo sound to go to all my speakers on a 7.1 speaker setup? I don't usually even need 7.1 or any kind of .1 , I just want rich sound in a room... I come to find out that my eched on nvidia 7.1 sound card that came with my biostar, does not use all my speakers when i play mp3's for instance, it only uses the 2 fronts and the sub...how can i solve this ? is this how it is meant to be? pretty lame IMO

you need something to matrix a 7.1 sound out of your stereo source. maybe try some winamp plugins (i know they had one to matrix 5.1 awhile back) or google for other alternatives. i don't do surround on the PC, so i'm not much help, sorry.

just remember, it's matrixed, so not true 7.1. should deliver what you're looking for though.

My logitech speakers have a matrix mode and it sounds pretty good. I've always preferred a surround stage instead of having all your sound up front.

you have to manually enable it, usually.
so if you dont know about it then it would just use the 2 fronts, innit

I think this is what MKJ is talking about:

Start/Settings/Control Panel/Sounds and Audio Devices/Volume tab/Speaker settings/Advanced.../Speakers tab/Speaker setup/Choose 7.1 from the list if it isn't selected already.
