Q4Edit and Core 2 CPU issues

I wasnt sure whether to post here or in T&T, sorry if I made the wrong call.
Since upgrading to a core 2 cpu I have been having some issues with Q4edit. The first and most fundemental problem is the editor crashes if I open it running in SMP mode. I have no idea if the editor does run with SMP enabled, but I seem to be doing something wrong if it does.
My second problem seems to be some kind of memory leak issue. Moving patches, or aligning textures on patches, after some time slows the editor right down, to point were it will eventually either lock or kick back to desk top. If I manage to avoid a restart my PC runs very very slow after Q4edit has shut down.
Any help would be appreciated, as I cant find any info on anybody else having similar issues.

As for the SMP, I'm pretty sure you have to have it turned off. I'm assuming you have auto exec configs for both, or switches in the shortcut targets, so you can just add your SMP off for the editor and on for the game into both.

Yes, my short cuts switch SMP on and off.

Yeah, oddly it throws up the same error as you get with having AA enabled so can be a tad confusing to track down, but yes seems you need to 'disable' one or more CPUs to enable proper editing.

I'm not reinstalling to check this with Q4Edit but the same problem happened with Q3 and r_smp 1 for me before I downloaded a Windows dualcore hotfix. It may be that your dual cores aren't fully set up.
