3520*1200 Sweetness!

I have a 20" 1600x1200 Viewsonic VP2000s LCD monitor. I love it. Great for graphic applications and games alike. Only complaint is that there is a little bit of texture banding that is only noticeable when I'm working with graphic applications with a lot of colour gradients.

Last week, I spotted a one day sale on a Dell 24" 1920x1200 2407WFP. My mouse hovered between the buy button and the close button on Firefox for quite a while, before I finally clicked buy.

Today the package arrived so I decided to hook it up to my computer this evening. I now have dual DVI monitors running at a total of 3520x1200 resolution!

That photo doesn't do them justice, it measures about 40" across! I'm not sure if I'm reclaiming more desk space or losing it by replacing the old 17" CRT that I had as a secondary monitor. Visually, I'm a little overwhelmed by the two monitors.

Anyway, this monitor is great! Virtually no banding and no image tearing in games. I find the default brightness value overkill so I dimmed it down a bit.

It comes with VGA, DVI, S-Video, component, composite inputs, has a 4-port USB hub and a digital card reader. I lost my memory stick pro dual in the monitor because apparently, you need the adapter. I had to use tweezers to get it back out.

I think it still needs to be calibrated for colour, but it's not bad out of the box, better than my old Viewsonic, anyway. One of those hardware calibration tools is going to be next on my shopping list.

Nice, it always feels good to get new sexy electronic toys :)

For some reason I can never regain my desk space, I will always be a 2 monitor dude. Even after I got my 24" I still use a secondary monitor.

Nice... I'm part of the 240X family too. 24" is more than enough screen space to work with... I've finally gotten control over my bigger screen envy disease.

Nice setup. I used to use 2 monitors, but I didn't really need both, so I sold my older one to Fury. He loves it with Supreme Commander. I'm happy with my Samsung 20" HDTV/monitor combo. The 360 looks splendid with it. :icon26:

By the way, nice speakers.

Here's the back of mine. Gotta love all the I/O on this thing :D
I still use a 2nd display as well. Can't live without it.

May I ask how much you paid for yours during that sale?

Yes, a Wacom Intuos3 12x9.5, I use it for a lot of graphics applications.

Errm... sorry, it was on Dell's Canadian website, so you wouldn't have been eligible.

You can get a 30" Apple Cinema Display at 2560x1600 for about $2000. You will need to plug in both DVI connections from your video card into just one monitor (so no dual displays) and for the same price, you can get 3 of these Dell's (on sale).

$650 Canadian ($200 off). My cousin managed to get one from his friend who works at Dell for $400. Sadly, his friend couldn't get any more since it was a one time deal. At that price, I would have bought, like... 6.

I'm also liking the fact that I can get rid of the USB hub and memory card reader cluttering up my desk and replace it with a single USB cable.

If you can afford a pair of the apple screens then a pair of dual-DVI PCIe graphics cards in non-SLi configuration will work.

That's a lotta screen space though.

Well, yes... but that would be overkill, even for me... or would it? Dammit Foo, now you have me thinking about it when I should be worried about keeping money in my pocket!

So you finally made it to Dual Monitors huh? Nice! I have my Dell and a Sony. I'm not too sure I could work with one monitor anymore.
