Azureus v3.0 (Zudeo)

Apparantly a beta version of Azureus 3.0 has been available for some time (it's codenamed "Zudeo") and it's quite different from what it was. While the original Azureus interface is still tucked in there under the "advanced" menu option, it's now one big media browser that lists all sorts of stuff for you to download. It's quite nice, although I guess the whole fancy fluff around it starts to annoy if you're grabbing your torrents from other websites.
Try it yourself:

I've never like Azureus, always seemed overcomplicated and this seems to just make it even more overcomplicated. I'll stick with uTorrent.

Hmm, I think for the average noob user, this is a lot more accessible than the old Azureus interface.
I've never found Azureus to be really complicated, it's just that it gives you a whole lot of information about the download which is probably only meaningful to the advanced user.

i hate when they change the UI with a million tabs and wizards and crap. like when they changed the forceware controlpanel.
IT DOESNT MAKE IT ANY EASIER. STOP IT :@

Whats wrong with the official client?

Nothing, but µtorrent is easier to use.
I hated Azureus from the moment it declared that it needed at least 150 MB (of 256 at the time) of my memory to download a couple files. WTF.
Used official, then ABC, then µtorrent.

The only feature I miss is "ordered downloading". When doanloading an entire season of a TV show for example, it should download the first files first, so you can start watching while the later episodes are still downloading.
You can do it manually with file priorities but it's a pain in the ass.

I like Zudeo... mainly because I love when they constantly improve Azureus, since it dosen't look like they will be improving 2.x much any more from now on (and Zudeo is nothing more than Azureus plus an extra skin). I use the advanced skin (aka old AZ skin). I've looked at Zudeo a few times and they have decent content. It's a great way for indie creators to get their content on there imo. At least better than bittorrent.com
Oh and I don't care how much ram AZ uses for me since it's one of the only clients that constantly gives me max or close to max speeds. If you know how to configure it right that is.
Plus all the other decent clients like uTorrent have sold out to Bram Cohem/MPAA

Azureus used to piss me off back in the day cuz of RAM usage but now that I have more RAM than I know what to do with I may have to give this Zudeo shit a try...

The bulk of that memory is taken up by the Java VM, not the Azureus executable proper.

Az is what I use now after 3 diff. tried ones and I have no complaint, I just ignore shit i don't care about, the interface is very straight forward IMO and yes the speeds are better than what I have experienced with others...I see no need to upgrade really, but then again that's what cavemen say about everything else so, uhm I might consider it.

ugh, I checked their forums and they denied this because "BitTorrent is not a sequential downloading protocol" (= "we won't do it cause we're nerds")

So the footprint of Azureus isn't as large as it appears to be. Running two instances of Azureus would require only marginally more memory than one. But don't worry your pretty head about it.

To be honest, who would want to run two instances of Azureus anyway? If Azureus is the only Java app you're running (which isn't quite uncommon), then it's fair to state that Azureus has steep memory requirements.

why not just use ABC or utorrent?
does azureus somehow facilitate faster downloads or something?

Not really. To be honest it's the first and only BitTorrent client I've ever tried. I liked the versatility of the interface so I never tried anything else. It comes with a lot of features as well (build-in tracker, IP filtering, plugin support in general) so I liked that too.

what's a built in tracker? does it help with the downloads?
btw the utorrent program itself weighs 173kb (stand alone exe).
it takes up 4 megs of memory when running (without any torrents loaded - not sure how much with torrents)

A tracker is what your client connects to to get information about which peers are available. In each torrent file a tracker is defined which will be used to distribute the torrent. If you want to make your own files available through BitTorrent and don't want to or can't use a "public" tracker, Azureus allows you to do it without seperate tracker software.
