I'm looking to pick up Swap Magic and the magic switch tools. Nothing special, but I can't distinguish the decent stores from the sketchy ones...
Anyone have a trustworthy site with decent prices, shipping, etc?

umm get it from the real site?
swapmagic.com(dont know if a link to this would break the forum rules)
a word on it,ive had this for 2 years and it can be quite bothersome, definatly if your laser is iffy on yer ps2.
also burning "back ups" is quite annoying, they often fail. id go w/ the chip if i were u!

http://www.scorehero.com for the actual GH custom song community.
I use a network adapter, 120gb WD HDD, WinHIIP, HDLoader, ActionReplay, and a cheap PSX game to utilize a soft-mod method that requires no actual hardware hacking.
WinHIIP can be found legally using google. HDLoader must be bought or obtained using you-know-what. ActionReplay absolutely must be bought as it comes with a special USB drive you need. PSX game must be an original black disk so that HDLoader can exploit the PSX emulation during boot up.
I don't have the link, but I'm sure google can help with something like "actionreplay hdloader ps2 soft mod".
Delete my post if I have said too much. If I haven't said enough PM me.

Swap Magic doesn't actually sell it from their site. They offer a long list of stores, but I'm wondering which are reliable sites.

I'll check that stuff out...
I've got a slimline ps2, so I should be able to use swap magic and the switch tools to play backups without opening the case and voiding the warranty. With luck, I won't need to bother with HDloader and ActionReplay.

Ohhhhhhh my bad. You can't soft-mod a slim PS2.

Swap magic makes life easier, get v3.6 and save yourself the cash. If you look around you should be able to find it for cheap.

You should be in the clear. Backing up original games you already own, as we're suggesting, is still legal.

regardless, ps2 mods are illegal, and talking about hacking GH on the official GH forums will get you banned :icon32:

Really, the mods themselves are illegal? Hmm...
well, if the q3w mods feel like deleting this thread, go ahead.
My mistake...

Well, you do have to reverse engineer their formats and break their copyright protection to make it work. I believe its more of a legal technicality than something they despise.
