Warning:

The sun is bright. Don’t look at the sun or you will damage your
eyes. Anything that focuses the sun will only make it more
dangerous. The Solar Death Ray is dangerous. Don’t build one.
I’m surprised I haven’t burnt or blinded myself yet. The fumes
from molten plastic can’t be good either. Don't play with fire.
lol

It burns shit, and seems to be quite effective.

i know what you mean, it does seem a bit dodgy but then again, theres no reason for them to pretend it works, they arent selling anything so they would get no benefits from lying....

It has 112 mirrors angled parabolicaly(sp?) and when each mirror reflects its image of the sun at the convergence point, it is like having 112 suns in on point. Of course every mirror probably isnt angled perfectly, but close enough.

It is like with a magnifying glass, only it reflects the sun to a point rather than focusing it.

how hot do you think that spot would get? yes i'm sure it warms up but do you think it gets to 240+ degrees C?

The site said around 500-600 degrees celsius

that is pretty damn hot if you ask me :icon28:

this is what the site says...

'Using some basic principles of Black Body Radiation, I estimate that the Solar Death Ray can heat things up to between 500-600 degrees Celsius (930-1100 degrees Fahrenheit) under good conditions. This assumes that heat is not lost due to conduction and convection of the air around the target, which is unlikely'

so, no

he then goes on to claim he can ignite paper so he knows it gets to 230 degrees C but I don't quite believe him
