I drove myself to the emergency room yesterday (screaming most of the way). Two shots of demerol and one ultrasound later (to rule out torsion), I was diagnosed with epididymitus. Now, I've heard horror stories of this nasty infection becomming chronic and lasting a lifetime. You chaps had any experience with this illness? Is Levaquin a good antibiotic (that's what they put me on)?

I'm cruising on vicodin right now, but I only have 16 left and I hope and pray the infection is destroyed before I run out. I have NEVER experienced pain like the kind this causes. I'd describe it like this put your balls in a vice and slowly tighten over a course of hours. To say the least, I can't work. Hell, I can barely walk. This sucks

Some kind of skin infection? Never heard of it. Sounds bad though...

The epididymus is the coiled tube that sits behind each testicle to mature new sperm cells. "Itus" means "infection of." Put it all together and you've got EXTREME PAIN...

did you develop the epididymitis acutely?

levofloxacine is a good antibiotic, works against a bunch of micro-organisms. Mostly it's and choice to prevent AB-resistention (at least here in Holland).

Acutely? If by that you mean it came out of nowhere at 3:30AM Monday morning and didn't stop slamming my nuts until they shot me full of Demerol... yes. I guess I don't understand the question. I've never had this before if that's what you mean.

Nope, although I was running a fever the day before it hit. That's why the docs think infection. I'm inclined to agree. I'm going for a followup on Thursday and will tell my doc to hit this with the strongest stuff he has. I never take medicine but this shit must be stopped cold. I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy...

levofloxacin's the stuff you yanks use instead of ciprofloxacin, right? Cipro's a pretty standard antibiotic for all sort of urogenital stuff, good first line.

If it makes you feel any better, I had a bloke in the department last week with a nut the size of a potato. He was surprisingly happy with it.....

epididiymitis is usually an acute infection and clears up completely, AFAIK. You need to be thinking about recent unprotected sexual contacts, but that's about it.

You have teh stds. So dudes can get urine tract infections, isn't there something like that only chicks can get?

I'm not a doctor, but it strikes me as silly for them to keep yeast in there in the first place.

Hell yeah guys can get UTIs. I had one guy in whose piss was brown and frothing He came to see me after he'd tried smoking crack to get rid of the pain and it wasn't working any more :icon27: :icon27: :icon27:
