That looks sweet. I wonder what cellular carrier will ink the deal here in the US.

edit: look like Cingular from the pics. And this device looks absolutely amazing. Leave it to Apple to create the iPod killer.

edit2:
OUCH
8GB model - $599
4GB model - $499

So, how does that "Cingular only" crap apply to Europe?

It can't be any worse than the Blackberrys and Treos.

This thing looks unbelievable.

Big question: CAN YOU CHANGE THE BATTERY?

well, as one website put it:

"The phone will be offered exclusively through Cingular in the US in June, and will come to Europe in Q4 2007, and Asia in 2008."

It doesn't say it's offered through Cingular in Europe.

On another note, the lightweight set top box I said was going to come out about eight months ago came out too... Almost exactly as I described. I wish it had a DVD player at the very least, though

I'm in the same boat. Verizon has the best reception in my area, although Cingular/AT&T is acceptable. Depending on user reviews when the thing comes out (June?!), this could tempt me to switch providers.

lol, $599 for a 8GB with a 2 year contract

what's that, like $899 without a contract?

It says "exclusive" and "multi-year" contract in the article there.

The weird thing is, one of it's most exciting features isn't really being hyped.
It features Multitouch technology; you know, that crazy touchscreen stuff as seen here.

I hate mobiles usually, but this is one sexy piece of tech...

Actually, if you read the engadget blog, the crowd went nuts when he manipulated the photos with multitouch. I think it hypes itself.

Yea, it sounds like it was understated, but anybody who recognized what they were talking about oohed and aahed I'm sure.
I think it's awesome.

The proximity sensor is a nice idea too.

I take it this is supposed to compete with smartphones?

It'd be great to have my phone and iPod in one device, but the pricing puts this way out of my budget. I'd prefer if they trimmed all the internet stuff and just made a simple mp3 player/phone. Ah well..

Yea, my contract with Sprint is up and I haven't decided on who to go with yet.

I may just wait until June to switch, and go with Cingular - and buy a cheap replacement phone in the meantime.

I still want to know if the battery is replaceable though. It had better be more like a cellphone than an iPod in that respect, or I'll never get one no matter how cool the features are.

I think it's completely retarded to have to use some battery replacement program, when on most devices you can just buy a new battery and pop it in - even Blackberrys.
