Rocket jump scripts

Hi all,

I had a query about the various rj scripts that are in use among professional quake3 players. I have (and occassionally use) the following script:

seta rjump "centerview; cl_pitchspeed 9999000; +lookdown; +attack; +moveup; wait 2; -lookdown; -attack; -moveup; wait 6; centerview; cl_pitchspeed 0"

Depending on the wait value, you can adjust the height of your jump. However, I came across czm's config, where he has this rj script:

bind m "cl_yawspeed 22500;cl_pitchspeed 999999;+back;+moveup;+attack;+left;wait 10;-left;-attack;-moveup;-back;+right;wait 10;-right"

This does not do the aiming, and it does not shoot where you aim...I have not been able to figure out what it is supposed to do. Moreover, are there any scripts for side jumps etc (like getting the RA in ztn3tourney1)...some pro demos seem to have scripted rjs.

Thanks in advance,
marquisdesade

You can make it go lower or higher or sideways yes, I haven't tried though.

From what I gather, that's a ninja script. For easy completion of difficult rocketjumps like from flag to the side window on q3ctf2.

enable third person view then use the script to "see it in action"

Can you jump from the flag directly to the window...i think you have to jump out till the nearest wall, and then bounce off that with a rocket.

Anyway, I was playing around with this script a bit more, and initially I thought it was intended to rj in the direction that you are looking. However, it seems to be shooting 90 degrees left of where you are looking, while preserving the elevation. Any ideas why that could be useful for a pro player like czm?

1. You can jump directly to the window
2. I hate rocket jump scripts!

If you don't have the skillz to do a decent rocketjump, then don't. Geez.

The second script is a forward rocket jump. It fires a rocket behind you as you jump, launching you forward, rather than straight up. In order to use it you have to look down and then hit the rj script button. The distance & height you travel depends on how far you look down. It's mostly used by ctf players for escaping with flag and it can also be used to to ra on ztn.

you sure? I know you can go from the window to the flag, but I never seen anyone go back, not even b3nt, and I followed CTF closely for years.

edit: oh wait, do you mean rocketjump from the flag to the window. yes thats possible, but not a strafejump.

Didn't work for me and I've got defrag 1.90, 1.91 en 1.91.02 installed. Complained about a baseq3-1/defrag-2 mismatch

n1. I usually do that one with a rocketjump. Never realized you could just strafejump it :)

Now i'm just curios as to why my defrag 1.91 demo didn't play, you said you had 1.9, 1.9.1 and the newest one. :paranoid:

I recorded it in the newest one, but mabye I should record all my stuff in the 1.9?

Hmm, I should think 1.91 ought to work just fine (it has for me, the last ten months). Haven't really put 1.91.02 to the test so mayhaps it still contains a few bugs. How did you install it?

I downloaded the .zip file and extracted to a folder called 'defrag191'. Should I have named the folder something else?

haha, told. :icon32:

How consistently can you make the jump? Can you do it pretty much everytime? I've never seen anyone do it in a ctf match, so I'm wondering how practical that jump is in real gameplay.

I can do it 9/10 tries, did it first try for the demo :S
