Actually, id has nothing to do with these forums anymore.

Also, I think his article is pretty interesting.

Please stop talking about doing "inter-things" to people with such a real-life paranoia. :smirk:

And even so, I doubt Carmack would care two shits about what happens to this place, or what goes on here.

Technically, when MPlayer choked, id gave the site lock, stock and barrel over to GSI. They don't even have anything to do with it anymore. With IGN's purchase of GSI, it's now theirs.

Thats neat. I think that's why Carmack makes such good games. He is genuinely intriqued by new technology and really just a hobbyist who gets payed a shitload of money.

To a first approximation, I don’t really like talking to most people, so I don’t go out of my way to enable people to call me.

True, however programming languages are tools. Clearly java is not the right tool for that job(Anybody could have told him that to be honest).

I do agree with his stance on java for cell phones though. However it is not a clear depiction of the full language. It seems to me that he is forgetting the point of the cell phone. The java games are an accessory, not the main purpose.

I find his article to be a tad bit misleading. He essentially complained that a screwdriver does not make a good hammer.

edit: as an addendun - I have noticed a constantly growing trend that people seem to easily forget what the main purpose of java was. Then they quickly turn around and complain about it for those same reasons.

Yeah but what choice do you have? I think he was implying that cell phone manufactures shouldn't have been using Java for the core OS.

the main thing he was slamming that i found funny was cell phones using java for its portability among platforms. something that is in reality... laffably untrue.

Seriously...how many people do you know that would buy a cell phone and immeadiately start trying to develop software for it?
