new to the mac and have a q3 install question

ok ive been reading up on this installing q3 on the mac and the only way ive gotten q3 to run is using the icculus.org download and i can get q3 to run and i install pb but when i go to a pb enabled server it says that i dont have q3 installed.
what am i doing wrong?

do you have a legit purchased version?
if so, next step is to grab the g4 patch from here:

i do all that but when i go to install the 32-altivectest2.pkg.sit it just opens microsoft word
