MARCH 23--The Minnesota teenager responsible for Monday's high school shooting spree last year created a violent, blood-soaked video that included an animated character shooting four people and blowing up a police car before committing suicide, The Smoking Gun has learned. Using the alias "Regret," Jeff Weise, 16, last October posted online a 30-second animation entitled "Target Practice."

Edit: Stylistically, he was better than most. While his methods and practice of animation are of a beginner's level, at least he didn't copy SouthPark and anime like every other idiot teen. With more detail and content, it wouldn't have been all that different from some animated shorts I've seen at festivals.

Well, aren't they a little bit?

We can't heap all the responsibility of this on the parenting. Peers are more influential at this age, and what are peers doing in their spare time? Counter-Strike.

It's not like 45% of all networked games are Yugi-Oh!, it's "Hey, let's have a realism based FPS, and if that's not enough, there's always the pack that makes the desert eagle authentic!"

More responsible titles are the key here. Unreal Tournament provides a series of games that have the same high-action violence without the realism, and they're still fun for years.

I still play UT2003 and UT every once in a while.

It's also not just the game, it's the community around it. With Counter-Strike, you have a game no more violent than the Rainbow Six series, however it's community is a bunch of prick clowns who wrap themselves in violent internet happenings (gore sites, trends like airsoft, flash videos), rap music, and play on populated servers with a bot, and once they kill the entire enemy team they spraypaint "SLIT YOUR WRISTS NOW, FATTY." on the wall.

Gimme a break.

if video games are to blame then we'd all be doing it

the kid already had some mental issues and anything or everything couldve made him crack up

He'd do it in such a boring way no one would even notice they'd been shot.
