Battlefield 2142

Ok, this game is cool and all, I even purchased it the day it came out. Played it non-stop, had no problems. But now, now the problems are arising. It's gotten to the point where I can't even launch the damn game. I've tried almost everything too;

Re-installing; Registry Cleaning; Deleting and replacing the directory with a friend's game directory; I killed AVG Free; Updated Windows; Updated nVidia Drivers; Updated DirectX drivers; disabled all processes except for EA Link; etc etc etc

The only thing I haven't done is reformatted. I seriously despise reformatting. I'm posting this because I know there is at least one person out there in the world of Q3W Forums that probably knows what's going on, so I'd like to know why exactly the stupid freakin' thing won't launch at all.

I assume DRM has something to do with reading the manual? I'm pretty damn sure EA didn't put anything about this in their game manual.

edit: And we all know how EA handles things.

Zero, I remember you telling me at Leetforum you had a Koolance EXOS equipped to your rig. How's it holding up?

Other than that, I believe you might have no other choice but to reformat :(

The Koolance is still going strong, even broke it at one point and fixed it up with some PVC tubes from my local hardware store.

DRM is the anti-piracy software they have builtin to the game.
You may have something on your computer it doesnt like?

Well I said earlier that I bought the game, which was downloaded via EA Link software. So it's not that. I don't see why it would matter if other programs, completely unrelated to 2142, were 'bad'.

Draw yourself killing the game. Then kill yourself but post the drawing first.

DRM (see the wikipedia entry here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_Rights_Management) includes a lot of different technologies but one form of DRM involves checking your PC to determine if any program on the company's blacklist is present on your system, and halting the DRM-enabled software if it is. Examples of software that may be blacklisted are Daemon Tools and Alcohol (ISO image loading/ripping/secuROM emulators).

This may be directly relevant, even though it's quite old copy: http://www.engadget.com/2005/11/15/ea-d ... -software/

Interesting Foo, Daemon still works perfectly for me :ninja:

Yea, I disabled Daemon and Power ISO, unmounted all drives and turned them off. So that wasn't affecting it, although I suppose I'll have to assume that there are other things on my h/d that it 'doesn't like'.

It's funny you say that, because a buddy of mine, one that I religiously hang out with every week (mostly to get smashed out of my mind), says the exact same thing everytime something goes wrong with my computer.

It's fixed, all I had to do was trick the game into thinking that I wasn't running Windows XP and bam it works.
