My 7900 GT seems to be kicking the bucket.

I bought a computer from Cyberpower.com a long while ago, and it was working fine for a long while, until a few months ago Quake 3 (and all my other games)started glitching randomly like crazy. Textures would flicker, disappear, for a frame, vertices would suddenly appear clear across the map, destorting the faces of a mesh or some map. Pretty much, my graphics would fuck up really bad for a random period of time, then return to being somewhat normal, but this morning I couldn't even start my computer because of it.

Every time I would try to start it up after this screen,
Image
a blue screen would come up, then my comp would restart. Only way I'm typing now is by disabling my card.

Also, my screen has all these weird spots all over the place.
Image
It's been like that for a long while, except alot less extreme. Random pixels would just turn red green or blue. It's really weird.
(yes, that has been my desktop image for months)

So yeah. My card is fucked, and I'm not sure what to do. Are there any programs I can run that could really get at this issue and tell me exactly what it is? Should I contact Cyberpower and demand that they give me a card that is not spoiled?

Suggestions, please? : [ I really do appreciate the help.

Looks like its over heating or something, my card wont even turn on anymore so my 6800 is in a box some place while i work fro ma 5200 (Yaya...)

I would try opening the card and cleaning out all the fans. It works wonders and it makes it a LOT more quieter and produces less heat.

Other than that, make sure your drivers are correct. Grab an old HDD and format, re-install XP, and see if that helps. If it works its a bad install of something, right?

If your GPU is fucked maybe get it replaced? I tried for ages with ASUS but they had SHIT customer service. Couldn't even speak to an English person...

But good luck mate.

Also check cables. I had bad DVI connections that resulted in something similar (odd coloured specks on the screen). Replaced the cables and all fixed.

What are DVI cables? And do you guys think getting a can of air would work?

The DVI cable is the one connecting your monitor to your vid card. Its definitely not your XP install since a borked install won't cause screen artifacts. Do what o'dium said and pick up a can of compressed air and clear out the vid card fan with it (and the rest of the computer while you're at it). If those things don't work then start the warranty RMA process with the card manufacturer (if it still has warranty coverage).

We're looking at screenshots. That means the source of what we're seeing is pre-cable.

It might even be pre-card. I don't know what method windows uses to capture a screenshot.

Hmmmm. One of my DVI cables seems to be not working. My secondary monitor turned off the second I started playing the new Battlefield demo, and it hasn't turned on since. Whenever I try I get some sort of "Disconnector" or "No Input Signal error. Also, one of my fans ARE making a really weird noise, and I bet it's that 7900's fan. : D

Now to figure out how to use this canned air, stuff.

point at angle. Spray.

I would remove card before spraying so you dont just spray the dust into another part of the computer.

And hold the can upright. Holding it otherwise can spew crap out of the can and fuck your rig.

And the purpose of the air is simply to remove dust from all the fans, heatsinks and circuit boards in your PC, because it's not sensible to clean them by hand.

oh good point. Forgot to mention that one. Seemed more like a common-sense kind of thing to me.

Hmmm. I sprayed the crap out of everything, but the spots are still there. : [

Aw man. : [ After re-enabling the card it's still not working.

Shit. Last time the blue screen of death came up for that split second I caught the word BIOS. Maybe I need to update them or something?

Right-click My Computer, choose properties, then select the Advanced tab. Under startup and recovery click Settings then uncheck "Automatically Restart". Then post the text of the next bluescreen you get here.

Cool! So my new 7900 GT came today! : D Unfortunately my monitor won't turn on when I use it, for some odd reason.

Hmmm. Can't delete my old drivers, can't enable the broken card, restart, and put in my new card. Can't start the new card.

Could someone explain why I can't enable the card, yet if I disable it, and connect my monitor to it, the monitor works, yet I'm still not able to play games?

And why won't the new one work at all? : [

Same thing happens when I'm in safe mode. I can't uninstall it, because of what that error says. : [

Yeah, I got a new one. Monitor doesn't display anything when I start it up, though.

Spots usually means the card is overheating. It may need a new fan.

This new one that was sent to me appears to be defective, too. The monitor only turns on when plugged into the second DVI slot, but even then there are only tiny lines on the screen that scroll very quickly. *sighs*

What does that mean? And how do I uninstall it despite that?
