invert selection?

I have a problem. I want to be able to do invert selection when working with faces.
I first select a face on a brush using ctrl+shift+mouse1. How do I invert that selection, so all other sides of the brush, except the one I just selected, gets selected?
I am using Gtkradiant 1.5 for Quake3 mapping.

I'm guessing: select the brush, deselect 1 face of the brush.

I work the other way. I select face-by-face.
But I suppose if you wanted only one face to be deselected do the previous suggestion of select brush -- deselect face.

tried that, but doesn't work. there is a difference between selecting a brush and selecting a face. the button "i" (invert selection) for example works for brushes only. you can select one brush and push "i" and everything else but that brush gets selected. what i want, is to select one side of a brush and invert that selection so all other sides of that brush gets selected.

I seem to remember when I last used 1.5, that it changed something major in regards to face selection since the Q3 1.4 version. I haven't used it for ages though, so can't really remember what it was. Last Radiant I touched was COD2's and there you can select the whole brush, then do Ctrl+Shift+Mouse1 for multiple face selection (there is no single-face selection as far as I can tell in COD2's Radiant), deselecting the faces you aim at on the selected brush.
By the way, is Ctrl+Shift+Mouse1 multiple face selection in 1.5? I seem to remember it was Ctrl+Shift+Alt+Mouse1, but maybe that was in 1.4 and earlier Q3 version, or maybe not at all.
[edit]Q4's editor does the Ctrl+Shift+Mouse1 for one face only, and the Ctrl+Shift+Alt+Mouse1 for multiple faces, but if you select the whole brush you cannot deselect a face with either of those. If that's definitely the same with 1.5, I guess you'll just have to put up with the time consumption.

i just recently came to Quake 3 mapping, so I start out with version 1.5. there seem to a lot of changes since last version, so I don't know what's best. to stick with the current version and just keep struggle with the face selection, or to go back. If I go back, to pick an older version of the editor I am afraid I might loose some of the current features that was added to this version. Hehe.
I have read a couple of tutorials about this and they teach about face selection, but it's something that doesn't work for this version.
Hopefully someone knows how to do this for 1.5.
