Anyone going to get a PSP next week?

I'm debating on whether or not I should buy one just for the sake of having one for a few road trips coming up....I wonder how many movies will be released on the PSP format. It definitely seems to stomp the Nintendo DS in pretty much every aspect. Decisions, decisions....

Huge waste of money.

In fun factor, it does not come near the DS. I've seen Ikaruga masters in a child like state due to the fun of some of the simplest DS games... Such as NintenDogs.

I haven't touched a handheld device since the original GameBoy. I still have it. It's served me well (though the sound died years ago).

But never again will I buy a portable gaming device. I hardly enjoy consoles anymore. I'll stick with my PC.

What really bugs me about the PSP is the media.
They advertise it's ability to play movies and such, but if you want to put your own movies on there, you have to put them on a (1 Gig = big $$$) memorystick.
That's useless imo.

They say movies will also be published on UMD, but that means I'd be paying for the UMD and the DVD. No way, José!

So it's just a better gameboy, and I don't need that.

Yup, because of the way the PSP works, its battery life is SHITE.Sure, they quote 8 hours or whatever, but thats doing nothing. If yo uwant to play a game like tetris you MAY get that, but a game like ridge racer will be more like 4-5 hours, and even then you may have to turn the sound down, or the brightness of the screen down etc etc...

When its CONSTANTLY reading from a UMD, it will eat up battery life in about 2 hours, which means most films should be ok but long ones (LOtR?) will not make it all the way on one charge. If you want to watch films for real you need to copy the film to a memory stick, but like has been said, thats even more $$$ for sony to get out of you.

Mean while, Nintendo is still kicking at 10 hours play on Mario 64 DS, the most awsome handheld game you can get ATM, and thats with NOTHING turned off and two screens, lol. They also save right to the cart, so no need for any thid party memory card (sony, lol).

Hell, even the game cube GIVES AWAY 4 meg memory cards for free with mags, while sony STILL charge £20 over here for a 8meg one... Whats that about?

You do realize, theres a external battery thing for the psp.. thats already out, and helps the battery life..

You do realize, "uber" batterys will come out

You do realize, when you compair the graphics between the two, the DS is shit..

You do realize, theres more games comming out at PSP launch, than there is TOTAL for the ds..

Graphics? Whats the point in graphics when the games fucking SUCK.

And "You do realize" that making me BUY ANOTHER BATTERY just so I can play games for more than 10mins is the biggest joke in history?

If the price of Sony memory sticks wasn't insanely expensive, I wouldn't mind. But those damn things are not cheap.

For some reason I've never really been interested in the PSP or the Nintendo DS.

I've played on the DS and to me, it seems really cheap and flimsy, but the games seem good. I've also played on a PSP (Mate of mine works at a import games store - Gametron) and to me the graphics and the actual thing itself seems better.

Alas, im not going to get either, I'm pretty much always at a computer either in Uni, my dorm or back home. And the amount i travel doesn't really require one of these.

I'd probably get a cheap laptop instead.

I'm contemplating getting one, once I find out how much Gamestop will charge, without having them tell me its exclusively in their bundle packs, which have nothing I want EXCEPT the PSP. BTW, odium, I've played the DS port of Mario 64, and if thats the "best' handheld game out, then handhelds are destined to fail due to shitty, low-res, hard to control kiddy games being their best.

Couldn't you just buy a mini-monitor for your car? http://www.lilliputuk.com/ sell them really cheaply (they'll be on ebay, too). They are desigend for car-computers but you could buy an x2vga lead and plug an xbox in.

Then with an xbox in your car (use an inverter for the power off your battery) you could watch any number of movies.

Are you joking or what, i've been playing one for weeks you stupid retard

Ridge Racer and Metal Gear Acid are the two best games you can get for it, and one is a shite racer with "okish" graphics and the other is a stupid game that messes up everything Metal Gear...

Christ have you never heard of *import*? I had all 150 stars on mario before the DS even launched here

In that case I take my statement back, however it isn't unreasonable to assume that most people in the US haven't played any of the games yet

its also silly to assume that odium is from the US

Yeah he's from UK, whatever, he still isn't from Japan.

I know corpse raping references always sound like something from Penny Arcade, but turning Metal Gear into a card game? Chug chug chug splat slurp ugh
