Play Urban Terror! The best QuakeIII Mod ever made!

Urban Terror 4.0 Has Been Released! Come Get It Now!

If you have never played Urban Terror, you should really check it out. They are about to release a new, updated version some time soon. But you can still download the current version and check it out here: http://www.urbanterror.net/

This mod has been around for over 5 years. In that time the mod has gone through major changes to make it one of the best playing games around. It still has the high speed, fast pace of QuakeIII, but adds the real look and feel of modern weapons, skins and maps.

If you are looking for a variation to QuakeIII, you should check this out. If you already have a QuakeIII cd, all you need to do is download the mod and update your point release from id, to 1.32. http://www.urbanterror.net/

It has been compared to counter strike, and counter strike has been compared to it. Just about anyone that has played them both will tell you that Urban Terror is better.

If you need to compare, consider UrbanTerror as counterstrike with the kickbutt strafing of Quake3. We have a bomb mode but we are mostly interested in CTF. It's really one of the best free mod's out there. A big new release is due shortly, as Headshot mentioned. It's going to be a good one!!!

Here is a quick video clip of the latest feature added to Urban Terror, in the new release. They are calling it the powerslide. It allows you to get up to sprint speed, then jump and crouch to send you into a slide.

Something is working. Could be the posts people have been putting out about the new release. Whatever it is, it's working. I've been seeing a lot of new players, as well as old players, coming back to see what's going on.

If you haven't already checked out Urban Terror. You really should. If you like what they have already. Wait until you see what the new release is like! http://www.urbanterror.net/

Oh ya! Bump!

Urban Terror is going to be a Stand Alone Game! What does that mean? You won't have to buy a Q3 cd to play. You will be able to download the next release as a full stand alone version, and a mod, as it is currently.
With id Software releasing the open source code for Quake III Arena during 2005, this opened the door for many exciting changes in future versions of Urban Terror. One of those changes was the possibility to bring Urban Terror to new gamers who never experienced the mod "back in the day." Every passing day it becomes just a bit more difficult to find a retail copy of Quake III Arena.

One reason behind the port of Urban Terror to RtCW: Enemy Territory was to take advantage of the fact that Splash Damage built it as a full, stand alone game. PunkBuster even provided anti-cheat support the game, which generated it's own, unique key that could be used in conjunction with PB. This option had not been available to the development team prior to this open source release.

We have successfully created a stand alone client for Urban Terror, using the urbanterror.exe and not requiring gamers to install Quake III Arena. This version has recently been released to the Quality Assurance Team and is undergoing testing. Urban Terror is still a mod and will be fully compatible with both Quake III Arena and our stand alone, urbanterror.exe.

One area we are continue to develop is that of the anti-cheat for the stand alone client. Since this version does not require Quake III Arena, there is no PunkBuster support for it. That could potentially open the door to all sorts of nasties we dealt with prior to their support coming online for Quake III Arena. This will mean that urbanterror.exe clients will not be able to play on PB supported servers, while the Q3 mod clients can play anywhere.

We are still working on possible solutions for some type of anti-cheat when used with the urbanterror.exe, as well as taking suggestions from the community and QA Team. But rest assured we will have two versions of Urban Terror available for download on release day and gamers will all be able to play on servers not running PB.

You just type

Code: Select all

[lvlshot]http://www.urbanterror.net/e107_images/newspost_images/ingame01.jpg[/lvlshot]
and you will get this:
[lvlshot]http://www.urbanterror.net/e107_images/newspost_images/ingame01.jpg[/lvlshot]
You do this for the full size image and not for the thumbnail image.

They have changed them several times, trying to make them easily viewable on most maps. On some maps, the players just blend in with drab colors. These latest ones are supposedly very good for game play, says the QA team.

I'll try out the standalone for sure, but meh, the q3 engine has aged pretty bad when it comes to blocky, realism maps. Looks like cs 1.6 ;o

That means you are trying to play a map that you don't have. There are 100's of third party maps available. You can find a large selection at our map depot.

http://clan.ballzdeep.us/modules.php?name=MapDepot

Save all new maps to your q3ut3 directory. Make sure to save them as .pk3's and not .zip. There is an issue with windows XP when downloading maps. Sometimes they appear as .zip's instead of .pk3's.

Got to lay off the crack man! J/K :icon25:

I doubt if that had anything to do with it. The only ones that I recall being affected by 911 was the desrat clan. They all got shipped to Iraq. Good news is a lot of them are back, and playing Urban Terror again.

Ok, let me explain. When selecting to download a .pk3 map. In the bottom where it shows filetypes, windows xp will show it as zip type files. If you don't select All Filetypes, and rename the file .pk3 before saving it. It will save it as a mapname.zip, not mapname.pk3. Then if you just try to rename it, after downloading, it will look like mapname.pk3.zip.

It's kind of confusing, but if it's never happened to you, it doesn't matter. I have helped a number of people with this problem. It took me a while before I figured out wtf was going on. I would download a map, then try to join a server, and it would say I didn't have the map. It wasn't until I noticed the different icons for some maps, that I realized something was different.

ok thanks for the link.

is there a way i can lower the graphics quality so i can get more fps?

seems like /r_picmip can only go to 2 instead of 10 like in quake 3

i just got a shitty vidcard so i only get about 15-20fps.

If you open the control panel by clicking the Esc key, it will offer a place to adjust your system settings. All video settings and graphics can be set from the control panel. In the Misc settings, you can turn off the high quality sky, and marks on walls etc. That should help with the fps. Be sure to disable muzzle flash and anything else that isn't needed. I think a big fps killer is com_blood. Just as in q3, if you get into a big shoot out, there is so much blood and bullets flying, it will lag you bad.
